In Jamestown, police say one resident had enough firepower in his house, to equip a small army.
Officers confiscated somewhere between five hundred and a thousand guns from the home of 63-year-old Thad Schank. He faces a weapons possession charge. Police also say one of Schank's weapons was stolen a couple months ago, which means it's somewhere out on the streets. When police realized just how many guns Schank had, they decided to get them out of his home, so that no more guns would end up in the hands of criminals.
He obviously took "one gun a month" literally.
It's only too many when you run out of room in the gun cabinet.Molon Labe.
ONE out of 500-1,000 was stolen. If a crook wanted to commit a crime, don't you think he'd take a couple?
If the police provided more security in his neighborhood, perhaps the theft would not have happened. But rather than protect citizens from criminals, the police would rather disarm the public "in their best interest".
According to what I read in the article, they were *all* stolen. ;)
bttt
Police also say one of Schank's weapons was stolen a couple months ago, which means it's somewhere out on the streets. or in the evidence room and a paper backtrack brought you to the front door of the owner months after it was "stolen"? too little information in the article such as was a complaint filed etc.
And ya know, I'm sitting here wondering how did only one gun get stolen? With that many around it would've been a smorgasbord, a virtual "Gunsmoke Buffet", to a thief. Something wrong in this picture.
When police realized just how many guns Schank had, they decided to get them out of his home, so that no more guns would end up in the hands of criminals.
The ends justifying the means and the number of guns, some eventual day, will not be relevant.
For the Left, ONE is having too many, and a crime.
Unless you are a celebrtiy, a US Senator from California, an approved cop on a Liberal police force....
With all due respect, this blurb is little more than a typical local TV teaser. Diesigned to incite, upset, and get the reader to "stay tuned".
Diesigned?
Designed will work also. ;)
Ok, I hope the government lets me know what the legal limit is. Also, what constitutes an arsenal versus a collection, and how many men make up a small army? This is so freaking bogus. I hope when this is over he sues these officers. They must be breaking many laws, not to mention violating his constitutional rights.
Hope you're right.
can anyone explain why it is illegal to own a whole bunch of weaons?
What would be considered too many to go from legal posession to illegal posession?
Do I need to worry about overzelous cops breaking down my door to confiscate my weapons?
I understand that liberal dopes think any weapons poscession is wrong.
I an many others feel that for my families protection from
government goobers, cops and criminals
it is necessary to own weapons.
Oh yeah, I think is is guaranteed in the constitution but that shouldn't worry authorities.
This means if you have one gun and it could be stolen, you have too many guns.
Yeah. Something smells about this.
If it's more than ten, you can lock up me and half of all male West Virginians.
I once visited a home that had THOUSANDS of those Hummel figurines all over the place.
Now THAT was hideous!!!!!

What troubles me is that without a doubt the local authorities can find some law or other he has broken (does he start his car before putting his seatbelt on?) and the jury of his peers will punish him severely.
What is the likely outcome of this? If he sues to have his property returned, what will happen? Will the officers be punished personally in any way for violating his rights?
Gov't: I'm sorry, you can no longer speak freely. You've used too many words.
Citizen: How many words am I allowed?
Gov't: We make that determination on a case by case basis.
I hope there's more to it than "too many firearms" but some of the Police have gotten into the habit of confiscating money from folks that have "too much cash". :(
