"...from his own grenade..." No wonder he's such buddies with Max Cleland.
His own grenade.... LOL!
There is a scene in HBO Band of Brothers where one of the good officers gives up a big chance to return home for a war bond tour but instead turns it over to one of the incompetent officers,(unbeknownst to the bad officer), so that his men would not have to continue to be put in harms way by an idiot!
Then in another scene one of the other bad officers who had decided to get his ticket punched and earn a medal or two was killed, luckily before he caused too many of his men to be killed needlessly.
Was Kerry told to leave or did he collect the Purple Hearts for the purpose of being entitled to early discharge? Or was it a "you can't quit, you're fired" type of thing?
Ping.... gosh beat me to it.
I would hate to think that Kerry was given a third Purple Heart just to get rid of him.
Gee, he was kicked out of the Vietnam War. He must have been doing something wrong. [irony]
Kerry was asked to leave - after he put in for a 3rd medal .. I guess that was their chance to get rid of him.
I always wondered why he came home with a chip on his shoulder .. I guess being asked to leave would do it!
The entire thing is insulting and smarmy - the usual for the Beltway crowd.
"Yes, when I was in Vietnam, I would swim up its streams and slither along its pathways
unnoticed. Then I would rise up and leap over tall buildings in a single bound while
wearing my shirt with the big "V" emblazoned on it. I was faster than a speeding bullet,
more powerful than a locomotive. In fact, I was so powerful, President-Elect Nixon
personally gave me a call in the jungle fully 27 days before he took office and ordered
me to take Cambodia by Christmas. What could I say? Lyndon was such a lame duck.
I told Him how He could win the war if we just stopped raping the children, but He would never listen."
