His statement implies it was Nixon, who in 1970 denied an incursion into Cambodia to get at the enemies' safe bases.
Love the context. Arguing against aid to the Contra's because it would lead to a deeper American involvement ( against his friends the Sandanista's). Of course the first chance the people of Nicaraugua got to vote on the issue ( forced by the Contra rebellion ) they tossed the Sandi's out on their ear. This guy Is ALWAYS on the wrong side of the issues.
Maybe the moderator could change the title on this thread to something like: Comprehensive Thread for Various Versions of Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia Stories.
We need one good comprehensive thread [this thread?] that has all the 'Christmas in Cambodia' links and Kerry's various versions and statements about it.
We can add this thread to these other compilations:

they're doing great work over there too!
It certainly looks as though Kerry never was in Cambodia; even his camp now seems to be saying that he was only "near" the country. So, would it not be considered perjury to go on to the floor of the Senate and enter into the records statements which you knew were false, just as it would if you made those statements under oath in court? On the other hand, if he really didn't know that he wasn't in Cambodia (yeah, right), does he have any regrets, shame even, and maybe even some feelings of embarrassment, about creating such a tempest in a teacup, maligning a US president, discrediting our war efforts, and giving encouragement to those who were always ready to believe the worst about our eforts in southeast asia?.......
bttt
Actually, if you think about the film "The Manchurian Candidate" the brainwashed implanted "memories" are quite vivid. In fact, they are "seared" into their memories.
Has anyone flashed a Queen of Hearts card at John Kerry?
Extract from synopsis of original film:
It begins with an astonishing, nightmarish gut-punch of a scene, with Captain Marco (Sinatra) and his unit sitting around a hotel lobby listening to a bunch of old ladies talking about flowers. The camera circles around 360 degrees; when we reach the starting point again, the old ladies have changed into a band of sinister-looking enemy soldiers and we learn of a terrible brain-washing plot. We even learn that dedicated American soldiers can be coaxed to kill one of their own with little or no trouble.
The unit comes home with the story imbedded in their heads that Raymond Shaw (Laurence Harvey) saved their lives. Shaw wins the Congressional Medal of Honor, which his mother (Angela Lansbury) and stepfather, Senator John Iselin (James Gregory), begin to use to their advantage in the upcoming campaign.
Shaw has been hypnotized into a fearless, remorseless assassin; his trigger is the red queen in a deck of cards. His brainwashing is so effective that he kills his one true love, Jocelyn (Leslie Parrish) and her gentle father Senator Jordan (John McGiver) -- Raymond's mother's sworn enemy.
Meanwhile, Marco has been plagued with terrible nightmares and suspects that everything may not be peachy-keen.
Sound familiar? So, why is it only members of his crew support him? Could it be that they were captured, programmed and then returned? Enquiring minds want to know.
Seriously, there are some times when movies unintentionally provide a perfect mirror of real life right at the time they are released. The China Syndrome is one. Wag the Dog is another. Is the newly released remake of The Manchurian Candidate, are we seeing another unintended synchronicity?
ALWAYS... and if Kerry ever told me the sun was shining,I'd run and get an umbrella!
The MSM will ignored it.
Thank you for reading my mind. Now tell me what am I thinking...NOW!
"Kerry is a damned liar."
What is that quote? Lies, damned liars and statistics. ??
Something like that. Following the progression in the quote, Kerry is on his way to becoming a statistic.
BUMP and Forward Later.
Kerry Update: "I have that memory which is seared - seared - in me of being with Marlon Brando and Martin Sheen in Cambodia. I remember Martin Sheen very clearly killing Marlon Brando with a machete and the smell of napalm in the morning...However, I am unable to remember when that was exactly or any other details unless someone shows me the Queen of Diamonds... I also have memories of secret missions into North Korea, Manchuria, and China
with Frank Sinatra and Denzel Washington...where I saved every man in my unit from hostile helicopter fire."
Senators and Members of Congress are not under oath when they speak on the floor. If you testify before them, you are under oath, but they can lie all they want. They can preface their questions to you with lies that make you look bad, but if you make the slightest misstatement, you can be held accountable. They can demand that you answer, under oath, a question that bears directly on pending litigation (e.g. is tobacco addictive?), and you must answer truthfully.

Kerry is very cavalier about his truthfulness while testifying. He did say to Tim Russert that he was young and some of the comments were cover the top (admitting to lying as far as I am concerned). He did admit some turned out not to be true ... and others did turn out to be true.
What an odd approach to the truth!
I recall that, as the boat was going up river into Cambodia, there were lights strung across one of the bridges, fireworks going off, and drunk or drugged-up soldiers firing wildly. It could have been Christmas. However, I haven't seen Apocalypse Now for many years.
thought it was queen of diamonds in Manchurian Candidate

Thanks - I was dumb to have thought the government would have acted in any other way......
