NEW YORK, Aug. 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- He's no drinking man, but entertainer Pat Boone, who'll be in New York for the Republican convention, may just have to crack open a bottle of champagne.
That's how convinced he is that his man, George W. Bush, is going to star in a second act at the White House.
On a stop over in Los Angeles, where he's prepping to launch his 50th show biz anniversary tour, Boone, who boasts that Elvis used to be his opening act, says, "I'm elated that the country is revved up about the election."
"Let Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews do a concert tour for their guy, I'll do some for mine. I've always been a staunch supporter of freedom of speech, even backing Eminem a while ago when he was under fire."
Recently Boone, 70, was nicknamed the boy singer du jour.
His single, "Under God," leapt from No. 35 to No. 20 on Billboard's Hot 100 sales charts, and went gold.
The impassioned power ballad endorses the deity's role in the Pledge of Allegiance.
In his long career, he's had 63 records hit the charts, including "Love Letters in the Sand," "April Love" and "Tutti Frutti."
To celebrate a half century in show biz, Boone, in the next 12 months, will do something unique, release four albums in rapid succession, each themed to a music genre he helped popularize: gospel, R&B, country and pop.
Asked what he wouldn't sing, Boone quickly rallies, "I'm not going to do songs that call women bitches and ho's."
"I've actually written a rap song called 'Backbone.' It addresses the three plagues killing young people: drugs, violence, disease-producing promiscuity."
In the interim, Boone, who won a TV talent contest 50 years ago and has starred in numerous records, films and TV shows, has wrapped a more sedate CD offering for October, titled "Hopeless Romantic," on his record imprint, The Gold Label ( http://www.patsgold.com ).
Boone's advice to young artists? "Make God your agent. I prayed about being a singer, and opportunities have been put in my lap. You think God gave me 'Ain't That a Shame' to sing and 'Tutti Frutti?' Yes, I do."

Please correct title. Should read Musicians not Muscicians. Thanks so much!
Take that, Springsteen!! Pat is one of very few secular entertainers I will listen to and support. One of the great talents of the 20th Century.
Wait, I thought evangelicals weren't allowed at the R convention? Oh, those snakes in the media are just trying the old divide and conquer tactics again....never mind....
Not that I think Pat Boone is going to make up my mind in who to vote for. Thanks though, Pat.
It may just be me, but I would rather not have Pat Boone's endorsement.
It's you.
I appreciate the sentiment, but Pat Boone just creeps me out, and his involvement with Scamway doesn't give him a lot of credibility, IMHO.
He is a bit strange.
Go Pat go!
OK. You like his politics, fine, no problem.
What talent does he have that rates so highly in the 20th century?
Given that you state that you listen to "very few secular entertainers", you don't set yourself up as much of an authority. And I mean no disrespect by that comment.
His cousin was the actor Richard Boone.
Boone came out into the hall and greeted us very cordially. We chatted a while, and though he didn't want to talk very long (it was a bit late and he was tired), he humored us. We took a picture, thanked him and left.
The other time was at a charity event. Pat had to interact with some very unfortunate, diseased children. He was a real gentleman.
On a humorous side, has anyone ever seen the video (I saw it on Country Music Television's 100 Funniest Moments or something like that) when Pat Boone lost his toupee on live tv? He was whipping a rodeo rope around or something and it got caught on his wig, and the wig went flying to the ground. Pretty damn hilarious.
