Kerry spokesman David Wade said Wednesday that Kerry thinks it is a state responsibility to decide who gets a driver's license. Wade said Kerry would not support any federal efforts to stop states from giving them to illegal immigrants.

George W. Bush will be reelected by a margin of at least ten per cent
Wait five minutes. He'll change his mind.
wow how brave of him to take a stand on something...
did he take an opposing view previously? probably
If I read the story right.
Totally phony headline. He is not opposing the licenses. He is saying to let the states decide and that he would not make a federal effort to stop it.
Woooooooo - Hooooooooo !!
Kerry '2004
State drivers licenses should not be issued to illegal immigrants.
This isn't a state rights issue, this is a national security issue. If states refuse to conform, the federal government will step in and put a stop to it.
In other words, he's all for it :)
No, he hasn't taken a stand on this. This is a soft stance issued via a proxy speaker, with plausible deniability. He can come out later and say it was misworded by his spokesperson and he can adjust it according to what the polls tell him what people want to hear.
Totally phone headline for a totally phone candidate. Surely you don't support Kerry for '04 as you suggest?
This title does not match what the article says. It says Kerry would OPPOSE any federal aims to stop the handing out of drivers'licenses. Is this a switch or isn't this what he's always been saying? I just don't see the title accurately saying what Kerry's aide says. Am I missing something?
The headline is reversed. Heinz-Kerry said he wont STOP Federal efforts to STOP all illegal alien drivers licenses. He just tossed it over the transom (like Gay Marriages) and ducked it by making it a State issue. Note he takes no position on whether they are APPROPRIATE. This is badly posted and badly analyzed.
He was for them before he was against them.
"Totally phony headline."
Indeed, for a moment I thought Kerry had picked the right side of an issue, at least for now.
You read it EXACTLY right. He's doing his flip-flops simultaneously to save time.
In your dreams...
Understand, an Campaign AIDE said this...that means Kerry cannot be held to this statement at a later date.
If states continue to endanger public safety by issuing drivers licenses to illegal immigrants, the fed would have no choice but to intervene...
I don't think it would happen soon. Policy changes like this take years and years of debate.
Well, I certainly hope my state changes its reciprocity agreement with any state that gives driver's licenses to illegals.
Kerry opposes driver's licenses for illegal immigrants............
He opposed them before he didn't oppose them.
