Microwave Politics and the Press

As we roll into the 2004 national elections, the Democrats have perfected what can only be called microwave politics, which -- all heat and no light -- serve to roast a person or cause without in any way illuminating the issue involved. Maureen Dowd (whose glowing eyes have convinced me that she is in fact the deposed Gao’uld System Lord Hathor, believed dead but in fact secretly holed-up at the New York Times) brands the gracious and intelligent Laura Bush “a GOP attack dog” and the rest of the press remains silent. James Carville and the rest of the Democratic Committee shrilly brand the Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth as “insane, deluded, pathological, Republican droids, liars, vile,” and worse for insisting that the public take a closer look at John Kerry’s war record – his self-chosen basis for his run for president. John Kerry himself takes umbrage with anyone who cares to examine his claim that, seared – seared! – into his memory is Christmas of 1968, which, during the Hoover administration, he spent aboard his Swiftboat as it ran along the Klingon border on Koosbane, the Muppet Planet, fighting the combined evil forces of Darth Vader and The Texas Air National Guard. After relating this thrilling tale for 35 years, his campaign now says that he mistook this event for his once having been to Disney World. Maria Teresa Thierstein Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry -- whom life has cruelly kicked-around by leaving her a shy, destitute widow -- looks into the TV camera and asks if the US is “ready for four more years of this Hell” while her staff is out using one of her Gulfstream V jets to bring her an on-the-road 5-star meal from Paris. I guess having to eat at Wendy’s qualifies as “Hell” to someone in Maria Theresa’s battered shoes. And the press remains silent.

The Republicans are not blameless in this arena, of course, but appear as rank amateurs next to the Liberal Democrats and their wealthy sponsors like George Soros, a man who became a billionaire by destroying a good part of Asia’s wealth and now whines about how terrible is the very system he abused in self-interest. When a Texas Republican spends $ 100,000 to create the Swift Boat Vets’ ad, that’s an outrageous abuse of private wealth. When George Soros gives millions of dollars to the Democrats through his world-wide web of dummy corporations, that’s “democracy.” The explosion in New Jersey over a closeted gay governor, extortion, sexual harrassment, and impending federal indictments for fraud and racketeering are all, of course, just Republican dirty tricks. And besides, what about Bush’s DUI in 1971?

To steal a line, a Republican is someone who brings a Nerf bat to a gun fight. A Liberal Democrat is like the emperor in “Gladiator,” who stabs his opponent in the back before the big match while the Press forms a ring around the stabbing to keep it from the public. In this age of microwave politics, the Republicans must either drop a Faraday cage over the Liberals or watch their electoral hopes be incinerated. This is the real story of this year’s election.

Maureen Dowd never looked that good in her life.

Good find!

Good article!

Would be more readable, though, if it were divided into paragraphs.

Thanks for posting this. Food for thought!
