"Unfit for Command": A Review Posted by McQ

I’ve read “Unfit for Command”. That’s the easy part. Since then I’ve been struggling to find a way to explain why this is so important to many of us out here to those who don’t find it to be important.

“On March 15, 2004, Admiral Hoffmann’s telephone rang again. Once again, the caller was John Kerry. Kerry had clinched the Democratic nomination, and he knew that Hoffmann was organizing Swiftees to bring out the truth about him, his exaggerated military record and his antiwar lies that had slandered his fellow veterans. Kerry made the admiral an offer: If you will back off and drop your efforts, I will ensure that my biography, “Tour of Duty”, which I know is unfair to you, will be changed to make it accurate in a revised edition. Here is my secretary’s number – you can get me anytime.
The offer from the Democratic presidential candidate was an attempt to flatter Hoffmann, a warrior who’s coin is not power or wealth, but honor – an honor deeply impugned by Kerry’s book. ... Kerry knew that winning Hoffmann over to his side would thwart the Swiftees’ efforts to discredit him. Hoffmann told Kerry that he and the vast majority of his shipmates could never forgive him for his defamation of our Navy and other US Armed Forces by his slanderous and undocumented accusations of unspeakable atrocities in Vietnam before the US Congress in 1971, his leadership in the VVAW, and his association with the traitorous Jane Fonda and others of her ilk. Surprisingly, Kerry responded by simply saying that he “was expressing his conviction”.

Thank you for posting this A MUST READ FOR ALL!

I read "hanoi John's" correspondence with Admiral Hoffmann. Sounds like his ice cream cone is melting faster than he can give mouth-to-mouth to his pet Hamster!

The mgr very nicely explained how the publisher said Sept 1 and the media said sooner.

That's funny .. because when I ordered my copy, Amazon.com said the release date of the book was August 15th

Thank you for sharing your memories of that day. My heart and prayers go out for you and your family. Your brother and cousin, and the many other soldiers that served and fought for Freedom are the ones that should be honored.

I too am no fan of wars .. I don't think anyone likes wars .. but there are times when it is necessary to help people live in peace ... to defeat the evil that wants to destroy all that is good.

When John Kerry came home, he didn't just speak out against a war he did not like .. he spit on his fellow men that served with honor. He accused them all of the most unspeakable crimes. He dishonored the soldiers that gave their lives so that others could live and breath freedom. He encouraged a nation and the world to treat the soldiers returning home like they were the evil ones .. he told one lie after another about them and he continues to tell lies today.

As I have mentioned, I don't have a lot of memories of back then, but I do remember hearing the stories of how so many men were treated when they came home. I remember telling myself that I would do everything I could to make sure that never happened again

I remember after 9/11 and my then 6yr. old asking me why do some people hate us and why are they burning our flag. I explained to her that there was evil in the world that hated freedom and how there are so many in the military that are giving up so much so that we all could live in a free world. I also told her and my other daughter that whenever they saw a person in the military, a person from the police department or from the fire department.. to go up and thank them for keeping them safe .. that they were the true Hero's.

Have you noticed that over the past 30 some odd years the Demoratic Presidential nominee's keep getting worse and worse and more and more liberal and more and more out of touch with the people in our country?

Bill Clinton was sure in touch! Just not in the right way!

But, seriously, folks-- They've been rather strange, too. Dukakis and Gore were emotionless robots. Clinton is a Sociopath. Kerry is aloof. They're the party of wierdos!

Ronald Kessler was on C-SPAN last night talking about his book A Matter of Character in front of a (small) group of B&N booksellers. I didn't watch from start-to-finish, but he seemed to get a rather hostile reaction.

Good political cartooning requires satire (lampoon), humor and a style of artistic rendition that buttresses the idea being conveyed all wrapped in truth... That, to me is wit... Eddy's cartooning lacks greatly in humor and artistic rendering... though she gets some credit for lampooning and the conveyance of truth.

Linda Eddy's Iowa Cartoons.   Now that I know what your referring to and of course, entitled to your opinion.
I along with many others on FR don't have a problem understanding their meaning.   Most, if not all of her drawings are about current events, or tied to the latest political happenings.   All cartoonists have a definitive style or signature.   In comparing her work with other political cartoonists, she has a very clean modern and interesting approach to her artwork.   Vivid and full of life.   I like it.

I believe the question, however was one of wit. Simply labeling Kerry as a sap using thought bubbles to identify her characters and explain her cartoon's satirical message hardly qualifies her efforts as witty... but to each his own...

Thank you for that perspective. What a moving account. I can tell that your family was very close, and that this war affected you all in many ways. It angers me to no end to think of what that TRAITOR did to heroes like your brother and your cousin, so I can only imagine the anger that you feel. Thanks again for sharing.

When I get that sort of stare, I say loudly to the person next to me, well at least Kerry has not been proved to be a Rapist like Clinton.

Your welcome my friend, I harbor a deep resentment for those who spat on our Veterans during and after the Vietnam War.

IMHO the left have repeatedly sought to undermine any and every Military action this country has undertaken. Their actions have done little to bring about peace, instead their actions have guaranteed the need for future wars.

When evil is not confronted it spreads...This is something liberals will never understand. They believe negotiating with evil can lead to peace. Yet the lessons of history have shown that all negotiating with evil does is postpone the confrontation and allow evil to grow, and as a result, the cost in human life to fight evil grows as well.

I believe in my heart that freedom is a God given right, and all those who deny their people of it will eventually fall. We are freedom's defender, and I think it's a title to be very proud of
