Electronic Civl Disobedience against the RNC

Posted on 08/18/2004 6:33:09 AM PDT by Ham Hock

On August 29 till September 2 at 12PM EST each day, the CrimethInc Black Hat Hacker's Bloc will be holding organized electronic sit-ins on the following servers:

http://www.georgewbush.com http://www.rnc.org http://www.2004nycgop.org

There are two tools you can use to participate in the electronic sit-in: the web-based javascript tool and three perl scripts. The web-based tool is considerably easier to use and requires nothing more then your web browser. The perl scripts require that you have access to system[s] that have perl installed.

I came upon this url today. We should take a careful look at it and figure out what to do about it (if anything can be done). It is probably not the only one out there.

http://phil.ist-backup.de/rncelectronic/

This page contains some examples of actual denial of service scripts that they intend to use against the RNC.

The flooding scripts are at:

Maybe we can modify the scripts to flood their own site?

Dont you just love those democRATS and their support free speech?

Script kiddies. Little cyber-pests.

Do what the Army does, with an offending computer: log the IP address of the box, and send someone to confiscate it.

Then sell the box at the next auction, and donate the proceeds of the sale to Army Emergency Relief.

Majorly bad idea. Fighting criminal behavior with more criminal behavior is never a good idea. The scripts are apparently designed to execute a "denial-of-service" attack against the web sites in question, which is a Federal crime. If you really want to help, report this to your nearest branch of the FBI.

Two things to do with this...

First, forward the URLs onto the FBI. Seriously. Hacking/DOS is a felony offense.

Second, I would suggest the RNC contact Mr. Steve Gibson, of Gibson Research (www.grc.com) for help thwarting the hack/dos attempt. He may or may not share the RNC's philosophies, but he's anti-hacker and has developed tools to 'honey pot' hack attempts.

It never ceases to amaze me how liberals demand their freedom to speak, but wish to DENY that right to others. That is in effect what these people are doing. They want to bring down Bush's website, block the delegates from entering Madison Square Garden, block NYC traffic to disrupt the convention... Hypocrites.

I like your sentiment but I work on the Army team that responds to stuff like this (if directed at or from Army systems) and the Army doesn't do that. Good idea though.

This isn't civil disobedience, it is electronic terrorism.

Uh. Scuse me, but....wouldn't this be considered cyber-terrorism and as such, punishable by LAW? And since these sites know ahead of time, couldn't (or wouldn't) the FBI set up a sting operation to trace and track those that 'participated' in this attempted 'shut-down'?
