Kerry blasts Bush over veterans' ad

BOSTON - John Kerry fought back Thursday against campaign allegations that he exaggerated his combat record in Vietnam, accusing President Bush of using a Republican front group “to do his dirty work” and challenging Bush to debate their wartime service records.

“Well, if he wants to have a debate about our service in Vietnam, here is my answer: Bring it on,” said the Democratic presidential candidate, reviving an old war and campaign slogan amid strong urging from party leaders for him to respond to two-week-old GOP assertions.

As Kerry denounced the criticism as “lies about my record,” aides privately acknowledged that they and their boss had been slow to recognize the damage being done to his political standing.

Kerry's gone mental. The Cambodia stories are enough much less the SwiftVets.

This is not between Bush and Kerry. It's between Kerry and the Vietnam Vets he called war criminals.

Kerry is throwing this out and still not addressing Cambodia or the "magic hat".

Kerry's boat is taking on water fast.
If this keeps up, the Torricelli gambit may come into play in mid Sept.

They're worried. The Swifties are highly distinguished decorated officers. These are not quacks or Michael Moore pot heads.

They got problems.

The fact that Kerry is now having to personally come out after these guys, tell me one thing ---- their internal polls show it IS having an impact on the election. I have been somewhat surprised that Kerry has not said anything so far. Basically letting his spokespeople do it. Clinton always came out swinging. This now seems to be getting traction. It is is proven that Kerry lied, then he is toast. If it can't be shown conclusively, then just 2-3 week of this dominating the news is killing Kerry. I have been saying for 3-4 weeks now that Bush will win by a comfortable maring. I suspect 4-6% nationally, and 100+ electoral votes. Bush hit the low point in mid-june. Stabilized for the last 4-6 weeks, and now is turning the corner. It's been a slow turn, but you seen many early signs.

What will it be? Does it go to Edwards? If the rats get hit by a "pathological lying" scandal then how does a fetus channeling ambulance chaser look as a replacement? Is there something in the constitution that guides procedure to replace the nominated candidate?

Anyone know?

I can't believe it would be Edwards. My guess is Hillary. She has money, name recognition, backing of all the usual liberal/socialist thugs. And she will not have to campaign much, which is why she can only run in a circumstance like this. Won't even have time for debates.
Heck she has been co-president for 8 years already. (And she still has a lot of the furniture from the whitehouse.)

Doubt it would be Edwards, way too much a flyweight.
I still think Hillary comes to the rescure! It's the perfect scenario for her, virtually no campaigning and probably no time for debates.
Heck, she has already been co-president for 8 years. Besides she probably still has a lot of the furniture and decorations from the whitehouse.

I believe I've heard that President Bush can say nothing regarding these ads.

The bigger issue is not Kerry and the medals.

The real issue is what Kerry did after returning home. Kerry tied up with and became one of the few leaders in the group against his fellow soldiers. Kerry testified against his fellow soldiers calling them baby killers and women killers.

THIS IS THE SWIFTVETS BATTLE! THIS IS OUR BATTLE.

Okay, but what is the legal procedure that puts her there? Hiclit has her scandals as well and they might be considered or reconsidered following an extreme and unprecedented scenario where the rats actually toss a nominee overboard for scandal.

No luck googling for details. However it appears there is nothing about it in the consititution other than the candidate meet the 3 requirements (age etc...).

If Kerry thinks it's hurting him now, just wiat til the SwiftVets turn their attention to what he did after he came back to the U.S.A.

Might take a SCOTUS intervention. I'm guessing the delegates would get to choose...that might give us Obama, Osama, Oprah...who knows?
