Doesn't matter - for those of us just getting off work this should be kept in the recent postings so the new arrivals can go in and vote. Most of us don't go much beyond the first page. Let's keep the votes coming!
Freep them, yes, but these polls are not worth much since anyone who is technical could write a script that repeatedly votes and bypasses the uniqueness setting. There are lots of granola-crunching liberal programmers in Silicon Valley who could write such a script.
Please don't make me read the front page of that paper! It makes me sick...
Actually, our programmers haven't seen any problems with repeat-voting scripts recently. We do still notice the results change when you bloc vote, as is occurring today, but that's cool with us as long as everyone's voting only once each, since it can only raise our unique-user ratings (I know you're overjoyed to help us out like that).
Patriotic Vets - 53%
Guess they stopped counting.
Thanks for the inside scoop. I think any safeguards a site such as this implements can be circumvented - whether the mechanism is a client cookie, or uniquely-keyed IP hash on the server. There's IP spoofing and any number of other techniques for getting around this.
Regardless, given the simple demographics of the area served (assuming even online readers are predominantly in the Bay Area), a result weighted in favor of Kerry is to be expected.

You may be right about the IP spoofing, but even if so, it isn't being done nearly as rapidly as the old "delete the cookie" script someone used to used. One issue we'd have with that is that if someone was using enough IP addresses, our ratings would be artificially high, and that's not an ethical way to do business. However, in a site with 5.2 million unique users a month, it's unlikely to be significant since none of our polls ever gets more than a few thousand votes.
Voted, 53% say Patriotic vets.
