Alice Cooper: Fellow Rockers are Treasonous Morons
Rock and roll legend Alice Cooper called fellow rock stars campaigning for presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) "treasonous morons." Cooper, 56, told the Canadian Press that he was appalled that follow musicians Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, R.E.M., Sheryl Crow, James Taylor, and Dave Matthews are performing a series of concerts in hopes of defeating President George W. Bush in the November 2 election.
Cooper, whose real name is Vincent Damon Furnier, is reportedly a strong Republican and fan of Bush who joins Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) at NBA games in Phoenix.
"To me, that's treason," Cooper said. "I call it treason against rock and roll, because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics".
Cooper continued, "If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."
"When I was a kid and my parents started talking about politics, I'd run to my room and put on the Rolling Stones as loud as I could," Cooper explained. "So when I see all these rock stars up there talking politics, it makes me sick.
Concluded Cooper, "Besides, when I read the list of people who are supporting Kerry, if I wasn't already a Bush supporter, I would have immediately switched. Linda Ronstadt? Don Henley? Geez, that's a good reason right there to vote for Bush."
Ronstadt was recently escorted off the property by the president of the Aladdin Hotels in Las Vegas after espousing her liberal political viewpoint by publicly supporting leftist, Bush-bashing film director Michael Moore. Her action prompted Aladdin President Bill Timmins, who attended the concert, to ban Ronstadt from the property. Aladdin staff checked her out of her room and escorted her to her tour bus.
Henley was booed on stage at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Orange County, CA, for expressing support for Ronstadt during one of his recent concerts. Later in the show, Henley, a former member of the Eagles, suggested his next song could be sung as a duet by President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Written by Randy Newman, "Political Science" has the U.S. dropping nukes on nearly every other part of the world.
Meanwhile, the GOP announced Monday that the country duo Brooks & Dunn will headline the entertainment at the Republican National convention next week in New York. Other talent includes country singer Lee Ann Womack, Christian rock band Third Day, and gospel vocalist Donnie McClurkin.

Award Winning Lineup to Take the Stage at Madison Square Garden

NEW YORK - Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie and Bill Harris, CEO of the 2004 Republican National Convention, today announced a second group of entertainers who will perform in New York City during the 2004 Republican National Convention. Country music superstars Brooks & Dunn, Grammy Award-winning Country singer Lee Ann Womack, Latin Grammy Nominee Jaci Velasquez, Grammy Award-winning rock band Third Day, the inspirational Gracie Rosenberger, rock band Dexter Freebish, Country star Darryl Worley, and Grammy Award-winning Donnie McClurkin join a previously announced lineup of entertainers who will take the stage at Madison Square Garden.
"We appreciate the fact that these artists are lending their time and talents to the Republican National Convention," said Chairman Gillespie. "Brooks & Dunn, Lee Ann Womack, Third Day and each of the entertainers participating in New York bring enjoyment to millions of fans and we are honored to showcase those talents during our convention."
"The Republican Party is honored to 'play the Garden' this month, and it will be a thrill to see these entertainers take the stage," said Mr. Harris. "Our program of outstanding speakers and performers will showcase the momentum and excitement of the Republican Party as we head into the fall."
Today's additions join a previously announced lineup of entertainers to perform at the 2004 Republican National Convention. The initial group includes Michael W. Smith, Daniel Rodriquez, Daize Shayne, Ron Silver, the Gatlin Brothers, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Sara Evans and Dana Glover.
The 2004 Republican National Convention will be held for the first time ever in New York City at Madison Square Garden from August 30 - September 2, 2004.

The treason he speaks of is treason against rock and roll because it (rock and roll) should be apolitical. Anybody know the penalty for committing treason against rock and roll. No face paint for a year?
It would appear he is referring to himself as a treasonous moron as well, since he is spouting his political beliefs as well. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I also think it's extremely funny that he's getting so much support around here when he is one of the guys who mainstreamed Satanism in rock music. I wonder how those over there in the Religion forum feel about him.

There was a thread not too long ago about Alice turning his life around - going to church etc. He doesn't do all of his old songs anymore on tour due to the lyrics. He has a radio show at night from 7-12. I get a kick out of listening to him and wish him well.
I always liked Alice as well, now so even more!
Nice to see that there are a few of the Hollyweird crowd that have some common sense.
I think I'll go buy his greatest hits CD just to spite the filthy libs.

I grew up in his original era. I thought he was an idiot then, and I have yet to be convinced otherwise, and this latest diatribe is not helping him, IMHO.
I like it best when musicians ply the trade of music.
Gotta remember, ole Alice is the son of a preacher so Christian beliefs are not unfamiliar. I see his music, etc. as his onstage persona. Though I'm a Christian and enjoy his music also, my parents (very devout) think he's demonic.
To me music doesn't necessarily represent life's views. BTW, I listen to The Carpenters, Tommy Dorsey, Charlie Daniels (there's a heck of a guy!)etc. too.
