I heard yesterday that Kerry had his own "AWOL while in the reserves" problem. As I understand, sometime after he returned from Vietnam, he went on active reserve status for his last year in the Navy. He was supposed to go to monthly meetings and do 17 days of training. He didnt show up for ANY meetings or training, He also has an extra zinger to his absentees in that this was the time that he went to Paris France to meet with the Viet Cong whom we were then at war with. People have been shot for doing something like that instead of just being embarrassed, so John should be greatful.

This is one of the best pieces I've read on the subject. One major item missing is a factoid from yesterday's (25 Aug) Investor's Business Daily editorial by Thomas Sowell that Kerry tried to get a deferment from his draft board, didn't get one, went into the NAVY RESERVES in hopes that he wouldn't have to go to Vietnam, got sent anyway (which is the ONLY DIFFERENCE in his Reserve duty from W's National Guard duty), wrote home about trying to get out of Vietnam when he was there, finally did get sent home early as we all know etc., etc.

In other words he joined the Reserves to get out of going to Vietnam, but a decision (not his) was made by higher ups that he would go.

I like one paragraph in particular in this article,

"Some, like Kerry, have not realized there was anything wrong with what he did. Instead, he hopes we will see him as a courageous Vietnam veteran. I do not. He hopes we will admire his bravery. I do not. I remember him more for his misdeeds upon his return from Vietnam."

I have zero respect John Kerry.

Funny how these leftists were more than happy to bring up their version of "the Vietnam experience" when it suited their propaganda. When real-life vets who were actually there stand up to say, "No, that's not how it happened," these leftists suddenly want "to heal the wounds of Vietnam"

Never forget - democrats and journalists were the ones who spit on the Vietnam vets the first time around and they are doing so again.

I've discussed Kerry with some libs and there is a very good reason why Kerry can't appologize for his remarks about the veterans. The deeply anti-war far-left part of his base listens to his Senate testimony and says, "Why should he appologize for telling the truth?" If he appologizes, he'll alienate all of those nuts who believe that the war crimes we do know about represent the tip of a much larger ice berg of massive war crimes rather than the bulk of isolated cases of excess that happened. He can't back away from being against the war or he'll lose his base.
