GOP bigwigs put the screws on a Virginia delegate mocking John Kerry's war record last night after Rep. Charles Rangel, a Democrat, blew up at the Republican convention and demanded that President Bush put a stop to the attacks.Morton Blackwell, a GOP activist from Virginia, was distributing bandages with purple hearts on them over the message: "It was just a self-inflicted scratch, but you see I got a Purple Heart for it."
Kerry won three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star in Vietnam.
National GOP leaders first said they knew nothing of the bandages, which popped up on the arms and faces of delegates at the convention last night.
Rangel, at the convention for a TV appearance, called an impromptu press conference with frowning Republicans around him, said Democratic National Committee spokesman Matt Bennett. "He demanded that President Bush put a stop to this outrageous and disgraceful behavior," said Bennett.
GOP Chairman Ed Gillespie later said he spoke to Blackwell and no more bandages would be handed out.

He he...the Dems look like the idiots they are...Hey I'm wearing a bandaid ths morning with a purple heart on it..my 7 year old drew it...I cut my hand while cutting vegies yesterday. I deserve it...I'm a hero (sarcasm). I bled more than Kerry I bet.

I thought this was a free country. They can carry filthy signs about Bush all Sunday afternoon, but Republican delegates can't mention Kerry's fake war medals. Republicans are such stupid wusses for always backing down.

Maybe the "V" that Kerry has been adding to his medals stands for "vegetables" instead of "valor." After all, he did get one purple heart by tossing a grenade into a stack of rice; one of the grains hit him in the butt. I guess it was long grain rice, since it caused such a grievous injury.
Sure Wrangle, they'll just get right on it, right after Kerry denounces a police officer being beaten unconcious!! Give me a flippin' break!!!
Okay--let's get McCain on this. Maybe he can co-sponsor a bill with a Democrat counterpart to stop the manufacturing and distribution of purple heart band-aids.
