Explain why they're going through all these linguistic contortions when all that Kerry has to do is sign a 180 and release all his records (that is, of course IF the facts are on his side...draw your own conclusions from his refusal to do so.)

The Kerry-Edwards ticket is in real trouble and it’s not just because of its politics (between the Swift Boat Vets ads and the public's growing familiarity with Kerry's Marxist voting record, his campaign has been holed and is taking on water faster than the pumps can handle it). We know – several months before the election – that most likely voters have, for the moment, anyway, decided upon for whom they will vote and that the committed vote is evenly split between Kerry and Bush. That leaves, at most, 12% “undecided,” who are now trending 2-1 for Bush as the RNC convenes and who are now making their decision as Election Day nears (barring another “Bush DUI!” dirty trick from the Party that Kicks to the Groin in elections). Under our electoral college system, a 52% - 48% vote for president can create an electoral landslide for the winner.
Still looks close, doesn’t it? But that’s an illusion. Because of who the Kerrys are. The public is getting an eyeful of the Kerrys and doesn't like what it sees. John Kerry is the student council president and teacher’s suck-up you knew in the 11th grade who did extra credit work in social studies and came to the junior prom with his date in a limo. Maria Teresa Thierstein Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry is the snotty French teacher you had who was born in Marseilles and who mocked your accent all semester and then gave you a D. Every time either one of them opens his or her mouth, that message pours out. It is not coincidental that Kerry has done best so far the more they both have kept their mouths shut.
John Kerry’s disconnect from the average American is the less pernicious but still debilitating. I served with over 600 men in Vietnam and not one brought their own film crew with them to record their heroics. His execreble, treasonous words upon returning from Vietnam should alone be enough to show just how alien America and Americans are to him. And boy, are we goona see them played over and over again on TV in the next several months. Then, too, Catholics Against Kerry is also warming-up its act at a time when the Catholic-Hispanic vote is becoming so important.
To John Kerry, the US is basically an unruly collection of dirty, poorly-educated people who need him to lead them into the light – with the help of the cultured Europeans and the United Nations. The more he talks, the more people see that he is really an alien from Koosbane, the Muppet Planet, crashed to Earth and struggling to live among the primitives until help arrives from the United Federation of Liberals. That he received no post-convention “bounce” is more than the Democrats’ claim that most people have already decided for whom to vote. That Kerry received no bounce is really the result of Kerry having beamed viewers up to the Mothership for several hours, to be regaled with tales of the intergalactic peace and harmony that are being kept from them by Darth Bush and his Imperial Storm Troopers. People watched for a bit, blinked, and then switched to “reality TV” to watch a middle-aged school teacher beat-up two NFL linemen. No bounce there, but hey; at least there’s an alternative to the SciFi Channel.
Maria Teresa Thierstein Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry is a different matter. She has the highest of what I call the S-Factor: she’s the person you most want to reach at through the TV screen and slap. Repeatedly. She manages to hit just about every bad note within the range of human hearing. Snot-nosed, abrasive, condescending, snarly, obscenely rich (but that’s OK if you say you’re a Liberal), and imperious, she is pretty much a political candidate’s worst nightmare wife. In a campaign in which John Kerry must connect to most Americans, Maria Theresa makes the average person wince. Wincing is not good for getting votes. Seeing the “We Love Theresa!” placards -- so hurriedly and desperately drawn-up the night of the Democrat Convention and waved by the party faithful after Ms. Kerry did an Ozzy Osborne and bit the head off a live reporter after her speech on “Civility in Politics” – was like watching the old bastards who run Beijing smile into the cameras after their tanks had slaughtered the crowds in Tiananmen Square in 1991. They loved it in Harvard Square but to most of America it was like watching an episode of “Farscape.”
In the next ten weeks people will get an earful of both George Bush and John Kerry. This is very bad news for Kerry for the reasons I’ve stated. George Bush, whatever you think of his politics, comes across as natural and honest. When he looks you in the eye you automatically see this. When John Kerry looks you in the eye, you know he is seeing another dolt to whom he must be polite to get his vote. The Dem’s best plan would include silencing Maria Theresa, and they seem to have successfully stuffed her into a trunk until the election is over (to the dismay of the Dean Liberals who LIKE her mouth: she is one of the few vents they have for the bile they choked on at the Convention for the appearance of party unity). Left to her own devices, she can no more shut up and sit down for the good of the party than shop at Wal*Mart (‘What are those wire-thingies on wheels? Shopping Carts? How Quaint!’). While Laura Bush is genuine and genuinely admirable, Maria Teresa Thierstein Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry is just what she seems: a collage of Liberal ugliness and hypocrisy.
The 527 ads will continue, thanks to the brain-dead McCain-Feingold Act that "takes soft money out of politics," and they will continue to roast Kerry. The Dems, having spent what approaches $ 100 million on attack ads against Bush months before the election, have found they are only entertaining their own core pathological base which smashes the windows of cars carrying Bush-Cheney stickers and believes that Republicans eat African-American babies at secret ceremonies a la "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion."
On Election Day, most “undecideds” will vote for Bush.
