GLEN ELLYN, Ill., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Illinois Family Institute Executive Director Peter LaBarbera said today that GOP Senate candidate Alan Keyes' willingness to debate conservative ideas is a "breath of fresh air in an age desensitized to moral truths," and said his comments on Mary Cheney's homosexuality are far closer to the truth than the views of his politically correct critics.

"Alan Keyes is obviously not enslaved to political correctness, unlike the media lemmings who ridicule him, and unlike so many politicians, Democrat and Republican, who will do anything to avoid talking about two of the greatest moral crises of our time -- legal abortion-on-demand and the push to mainstream homosexuality," he said.
On Monday, Keyes was interviewed by a "gay" radio network and characterized homosexuality as "selfish hedonism." When asked if that description applied to Vice President Dick Cheney's openly homosexual daughter Mary, he said it did.
Those words ignited a media firestorm, and liberal GOP leader Judy Baar Topinka called them "idiotic." Topinka is a big supporter of homosexual activism in Illinois, and recently rode a float in the Chicago "gay pride" parade. The parade featured vulgar Bush-bashing, gyrating male dancers and contingents of sadomasochists -- and even a Chicago bathhouse (where homosexual men go for anonymous sex). Attending the parade as an observer, LaBarbera witnessed two men engaging in a depraved sex act on the street directly in front of a row of policemen.
"What's truly idiotic is a Republican leader going out of her way to embrace homosexual activists -- who are crusading for counterfeit 'marriage' -- in an election year when the head of her party, George Bush, supports the federal marriage amendment," LaBarbera said. "It's obvious that Illinois-GOP leaders like Topinka are out to get Keyes."
LaBarbera said there is a certainly a selfish component to proud homosexuality, just as there is to advocacy of any sin. He said it is a tragedy that Mary Cheney has "bought into the lie of the 'gay' movement that she is somehow defined by this unnatural inclination. I hope Dick and Lynne Cheney understand that they can love their daughter without embracing or defending wrong behavior."
Illinois Family Institute is featuring former homosexual Stephen Bennett at its banquet in Arlington Heights on September 27.
"Opposition to proud homosexuality and defending traditional marriage is far more in line with grassroots Illinois citizens than celebrating 'gay pride,'" said LaBarbera, who accused the media of taking Keyes' statements out of context to make him look extreme, while ignoring opponent Barack Obama's very liberal record.

According to a Chicago Tribune article, Topinka chastized Keyes for violating Reagan's 11th commandment. She says this in spite of repeatedly bashing a fellow republican in ways that are far worse than the infamous 8-word confirmation of the application of a general principle he had outlined separately from any personality.
Is this the "kinder and gentler" GOP that we really need to promote? I suggest that there is a big problem with the Illinois GOP, and it isn't Keyes.
As I said, and as many have said, I don't think it was a good idea politically to answer the reporter's question directly. However, we must exercise our intellectual ability to stand back and analyze the situation honestly and objectively. Keyes, whatever his shortcomings, is a rock-solid conservative who is not afraid to make his views known so that the voters have a real choice. We would be blessed to have representatives in Congress who do this.
I suggest we forego Keyes bashing (i.e., "He's an idiot,""He can't win," etc.) for the time being, ask fair and valid questions when we must, and in every case either support the pro-life, pro-family, pro-second amendment, pro-liberty candidate over the infanticide-supporting opponent.
That's all I have to say.
Assuming this guy votes, and Keyes votes for himself, Keyes is doing better that the media (and many FReepers) give him credit for.
Did Topinka try and fail to block the coronation of Keyes as the Senate nominee? Or did she support his selection, knowing that she could undermine him during the campaign?
Why do IL people like Topinka?
As bad as things are for the IL GOP, they would be much worse if Topinka herself were the senatorial nominee.
I know two Ill. voters who will be casting their votes for Keyes. One white. One hispanic. (My dad and his wife.)

Being a part of that kind of public display isn't the action of a moderate Republican or even a moderate Democrat.
She's got to be a liberal Democrat plant.
Tiger - another article about this, and Its - one for the list.
OK. But if he makes another reparations proposal, or trashes the Bush daughters or the President himself, the gloves are off.
You know if he is asked about his view on special tax breaks, he's going to say the same thing he said before. Are you referencing ANOTHER proposal for ANOTHER group of citizens?
I think this article illustrates what Dr. Keyes is up against in Illinois. We all need to get behind him and support him!!!
Who knows what Keyes will say next? A man who thinks Michael Jordan shouldn't pay taxes might propose giving a thousand dollar check to midgets.
On the bright side, he also doesn't think you should have to pay an income tax, after the 16th amendment is repealed, of course.
... but Keyes' fearlessness in discussing issues is a refreshing change from cookie-cutter candidates who lack courage or run from their liberal record every election year," LaBarbera said.
And he's just talking about Republicans. 8^)
A man who hands a trillion dollar education bill to Ted Kennedy just might make John Kerry Secretary of the Navy.
That's nutty and you know it.
No nuttier than your post.
Slavery reparations for Michael Jordah, P Diddy and Oprah Winfrey is nutty.
Making that out of Keyes remarks is nutty. Carvillian even.
- Homosexual Agenda PING -
What can I say? Keyes is not afraid to call it as he sees it. I, for one, am glad to see that in someone who makes his living being in public.
Namby-pamby, wishy-washy, hemming and hawing is what got us into this mess in the first place. We need to take the gloves off and start calling these acts of abomination for what they truly are.
