In the hours after accepting the Republican nomination for another four years in the White House, President Bush's popularity skyrocketed in the America Online straw poll, as he led in all 50 states.
As of 2 a.m. Eastern Time this morning, Democrat John Kerry was ahead only in the District of Columbia, carrying just three electoral votes, while Bush covered the entire rest of the U.S. map, collecting 535 electoral votes. A total of 270 electoral votes is needed to win the White House.

Well, that's a gain of Connecticut and Vermont since AOL's last straw poll. I think we get France and Germany before D.C. though.

I think you forgot...DC has the highest percentage of BLACKS in the US...Someone here can probably quote the statistics...75-80%
Remember, they are talking about DC, not outside the beltway.

I've lived in D.C. on and off for thirty years and have worked here for twenty-five. Much though I wish, NO WAY D.C. will go Republican. Hope I have to mightily eat my words (oh, how I'd love it), but I don't think so. I love my city with all my heart...but a bastion of logical thinking and republicanism it ain't.
