OK, serious question: Who duped Rather into running with these forgeries?
They are so transparently fake, that it must have come from someone who Rather trusted or believed to an extreme.
I'm thinking it came from Kerry's campaign. Rather would have bought that quite quickly. Recall that the Kcamp has been making many dumb moves. The dumbest was of course running on Vietnam when they had to know that the Swifties were out there, along with all of the records of Kerry's anti-war activities. They made the mistake of thinking they could use their many friends in the media to spin their way through it. They thought they could run on lies.
Did they make the same mistake again, thinking their many friends in the media would never question/notice/report any problems with the documents? Did they expect team Bush to over-react and have the focus of the story turn to the Bush reaction and not the actual documents at the base of the charges?
Someone was dumb enough to try this. Team Kerry seems to be the only ones qualified as of late.

Bring a lunch and a large book. A sleeping bag wouldn't be a bad idea either.

"Forget about just canning Rather's ass. I smell a HUGE libel suit here.... Hmmmmmmm- after November, I know of at least one very liberal trial lawyer that might need a job..........
Actually, the best thing W could do is smile - be a big man about it - no whining- no complaining - and take pity on the idiots that tried this......it would be his nature to do this anyway.....

>>My husband thinks President Bush should ban CBS from his press pool until Dan Rather issues a formal apology!!
Bush shouldn't do it; Victoria Meyers should. She'd make the SOB grovel.
There's no way Bush should do it, it's beneath him, and would tend to elevate Rather.

Yes... "FOB" on some. "JFK" on another. "DNC" and "CBS" on the remaining ones.

From the book of Monty Python skits...
MAYNARD: It reads, 'Here may be found the last words of Joseph of Arimathea. He who is valiant and pure of spirit may find the Holy Grail in the Castle of aaarrrrggh'.
ARTHUR: What?
MAYNARD: '...The Castle of aaarrrrggh'.
BEDEVERE: What is that?
MAYNARD: He must have died while carving it.
LAUNCELOT: Oh, come on!
MAYNARD: Well, that's what it says.
ARTHUR: Look, if he was dying, he wouldn't bother to carve 'aarrggh'. He'd just say it!
MAYNARD: Well, that's what's carved in the rock!
GALAHAD: Perhaps he was dictating.
ARTHUR: Oh, shut up.
