Powerline wins, CBS News loses (Both the memo forgery, and AP booing lie)
Frontpage Magazine ^

Posted on 09/10/2004 6:29:33 AM PDT by MaineRepublic

Matt Drudge, who crashed our server earlier today by linking to our first post on the 60 Minutes hoax, is now headlining: "CBSNEWS LAUNCHES INTERNAL INVESTIGATION AFTER SUSPICIOUS BUSH DOCS AIRED." Drudge reports:

CBS NEWS executives have launched an internal investigation into whether its premiere news program 60 MINUTES aired fabricated documents relating to Bush National Guard service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. "The reputation and integrity of the entire news division is at stake, if we are in error, it will be corrected," a top CBS source explained late Thursday.

The source, who asked not to be named, described CBSNEWS anchor and 60 MINUTES correspondent Dan Rather as being "shell-shocked" by the increasingly likelihood that the documents in question were fraudulent.

Rather, who anchored the segment presenting new information on the president's military service, will personally correct the record on-air, if need be, the source explained from New York.

Tomorrow morning, dinosaur media across the country will be headlining the 60 Minutes "scoop" as a blow to the Bush campaign. Before their newspapers are even printed, not only is the story obsolete, but CBS is in full retreat. As Stephen Hayes reported earlier today, Power Line "led the charge" against the 60 Minutes hoax today. But the credit really goes to the incredible power of the internet. We knew nothing; all of our information came from our readers. Many thousands of smart, well-informed people who only a few years ago would have had no recourse but perhaps to write a letter to their local newspaper, now can communicate and share their expertise in real time, through sites like this one. The power of the medium is incredible, as we've seen over the last fourteen hours.

The MSM is dead. There have been too many lies in the past week for them to ever recover their reputation.

I was appalled to see USA Today still running the story with no indication that there is even a question of authenticity as of last night.

CBS News had the story on their website last night without any indication of credibility concerns.

These guys are amazing.

“The reputation and integrity of the entire news division is at stake”

That was demonstrably lost a long time ago!

DAN CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH

“Dan Rather is the undisputed head pooh-bah of the news division at CBS. Rather has spent 40 years solidifying his position. His former colleague Bernard Goldberg reports that Mr. Rather is extremely sensitive to criticism from any source. In his book "Bias," Mr. Goldberg quotes CBS News President Andrew Haywood: "Dan can't distinguish between mainstream criticism and criticism coming from the extremists. It's all the same to him." Goldberg writes that in the 1980s there was a vice president at CBS whose unofficial title was "vice president in charge of Dan Rather. "His main job was keeping Dan Rather happy." Little wonder, then, that CBS News refuses to acknowledge the liberal bias that is a staple of CBS News. No one can get through to Dan Rather. He is impervious to criticism.”

Beautiful. It just keeps getting better! The MSM prints a story that everyone knows is false. Not only does it shred their credibility as a reliable news source, but it makes them appear to be in cahoots with the fraud. This is Christmas come early.

He'd better get out the heavy armor, this time it could cost him whatever is left of his reputation, trying to damage the incumbent President with such an obvious phony story.

This will only HELP Bush.

My feeling is that cbs will try to "clinton" this story out. That is stick w/ it and ignore all evidence to the contrary.

The coming test is going to be whether or not FR and the rest of conservative media can drive them to ground, tree them like a coon, and shine a flash light attached to a 30-06 in their eyes.

That no longer matters. What this story demonstrates is that the quality of the news on the web is infinitely better then what is available from the dinosaur media. They can say, think, or do whatever they want; they are in the tar pit and sinking fast.

No, the way they're going, they will be cheering for old Kaiser Bill. Gen. John Pershing will be the one getting the anal treatment from the press.

Regarding the Main Stream Media being dead: you are spot on. Basically, we are better at their jobs than they are. We have been all along. Average Americans, the ones who do not seek publicity, work every day, have deep convictions and boat loads of common sense; see through the BS. They always have.

We are told forever by the Manhattan elitists that we are essentially 'fly over' people. Their hubris gives them drunken judgement and they believe they are the only ones with 'superior thoughts'. They are wrong. The surest proof is in watching elections going back to McGovern and seeing them predict one outcome year after year only to be confounded when the silent masses go to the polls.

Its actually quite funny to see each new crop of young, bow tied, ivy educated, self-involved talking head do the same thing in each election cycle. They don't write history about us but in our own way, we make history. My hat is off to the Swift Freepers who killed this CBS story on the merits using their common sense, well before it was allowed to grow.

DAN CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH

Maybe Danny Boy needs another vacation. like the unexpected vacation he took in 2000. Remember this from August 17, 2000 during the DNC convention ...?

"Timing is everything. Al Gore must stand and deliver here tonight as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee, and now Gore must do so against the backdrop of a potentially damaging, carefully orchestrated story leak about President Clinton. The story is that Republican-backed special prosecutor Robert Ray, Kenneth Starr's successor, has a new grand jury looking into possible criminal charges against the President growing out of Mr. Clinton's sex life."

"You don't have to be a cynic to note that this has all the earmarks of a carefully orchestrated, politically motivated leak,"

In fact, the story about the Clinton grand jury probe was accidentally leaked to an Associated Press reporter by a federal judge appointed by Democratic President Jimmy Carter. But Rather's ignorance of the facts did not restrain his later prime time speculation about the "Republican-backed" prosecutor.

These quotes are from Media Research Center and can be found here.

What the mrc article does not point out is that when the truth became public, Mr. Rather took an extended vacation and never apologized or even acknowledged the "mistake".

What's the frequency Kenneth?
