Pukin Dog, you are a DAMN good writer.
I've excerpted the letter (and linked to it) and added some of my own commentary at http://mhking.mu.nu/archives/045499.php I don't have the Instapundit readership, but I reach enough folks (and enough who may get word back to Glenn!) to get some attention....
Where I'm from, you just single-handedly gave out what we call a family ass-whippin'!
I wish I were where you are so I could shake your hand on an outstanding piece. Wonderful!
Pukin Dog's open letter to the liberal media establishment...
Rant on DOG! Rant on!
PING!
The more times the media tries to slander Free Republic, the more traffic it generates here and the more members (and even converts) it creates.
Their early attempts at smearing Rush Limbaugh failed as well (I remember when he was a guest host on Pat Sajak's tv show).
Seriously They must be right and you must be wrong! ;}Heeheee.. What a bunch of arrogant idiots they are. Everyone knows the bigger you are the harder you fall!
This is true of talk radio (like Rush's show) as well. Rush knows that if he makes a mistake in facts or assumptions about something like an airplane, he will soon get a call from someone who has a detailed working knowledge of that field.
FR has the benefit of having no "call screener" to keep the number of topics at a minimum. The Admin Moderator serves a thankless task of keeping the trolls out, the duplicate threads to a minimum, the flamewars under control, and the copyright lawsuit infractions out.
Also the internet permits quick hyperlinking to earlier threads/related articles that allow people to come into a story already in progress without much repeat of the basic facts.
FR is successful where other blogs are not so strong because there are FReepers around the world, on mailing lists of all sorts, reading/listening to news reports from all over. When something makes it to FR, it is sourced (not just accepted as "fact") and even kicked around awhile.
We have had live observers at numerous historical events.
How many "journalists" just retype existing wireservice stories?
"Another freeper has already likened this to a 21st century BOSTON TEA PARTY!!!Hmmmmm.
A Boston TV Party..."
How about A BOSTON PAJAMA PARTY.....?
By the way Pukin' Dog - this is more 5han a rant - it's a manifestp - wonderful
I'm piling onto this thread a little late because I don't often read vanity posts. I'm glad I read this one. This is much more than a vanity. In fact, it could appropriately be titled: "The New Media Manifesto". Very well done and I hope it gets a lot of circulation.
Great rant!
Collective intelligence. They don't like that one bit!
We were professionals before we were amatuers.
Bravo! The Declaration of Independence from the MSM.
Yep.
As a CIO of a small company, and a Deacon in the Catholic Church, I couldn't agree more. Like Pukin Dog stated; we are not a bunch of amateurs or immature kids. And we are fed up with the liberal socialist secularist bias that exists in the commentary delivered by so-called journalists day in and day out.
I'm mad as ZELL, and I aint gonna take it anymore.
They accused us of a VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY! They will rue the day they woke this sleeping giant.
