CBS News: Credibility Is Basically Superficial
The Washington Dispatch ^ | September 13, 2004 | Vincent Fiore

CBS and Dan Rather particularly, have disgraced themselves.

As the old media crumbles around itself, the new media steps up to fill the void.

It was the Internet that broke the Dan Rather story, and talk radio that gave it fight.

I do not think the Dan Rather's of yesterdays news will be missed.

After all, people want the facts, not an idealogical reinvention of them.

i don't think they really had credibility with the general public, what they lost was credibility with fellow journalists/competition

With Apologies to Randy Newman

Pajama People

Pajama People got no reason
Pajama People got no reason
Pajama People got no reason
To live

They got little stubby fingers - little blurry eyes
They protest all day - postin' great big lies

They got snotty noses and coffee-stained teeth
They wear week-old underwear on their nasty little seat.

Well, I don't want no Pajama People
Don't want no Pajama People
Don't want no Pajama People `Round here

Pajama People are not the same as you and I (A Fool Such As I)
Good folk are liberals 'til the day they die (It's A Wonderful World)

Pajama People got nobody
Pajama People got nobody
Pajama People got nobody
To love

They got little beady eyes - and a furrowed brow
You gotta cuff their ears - just to say hello

They got little protest horns
That go beep, beep, beep

They're always saying
"Cheney's our veep, veep, veep!"

They got nasty little toes
hangin' from jammys below
We gotta make sure - it's their time to go.

Well, I don't want no Pajama People
Don't want no Pajama People
Don't want no Pajama People
'Round here

If you watch Rather, Jennings, etc., all you see are adds for incontinence, drugs for libido, Depends, etc. Most people who watch the news in this rapidly declining format are OLD!! I'm 57, and I get my news on the Internet. I think most Republicans do as well. My mom is 83, and she watches Rather, because that's all she knows. When she and her generation is gone, the Rather's' of the world will be as well.

Ya know, this is becoming a fascinating story. Although this is far from a seminal idea (it has been expressed by many others a lot sharper/brighter than I), what makes this story so interesting is less the facts of it than the environment.

This story began as a broadcast MSM smear against a sitting president during a time of war. It then moved into the cyber world of the blogsphere that gave it increasingly stronger and more solid legs as bloggers presented varied and unambiguous facts to support the claim that the memos had been forged. As the claims of forgeries increased and became more substantiated, the story was FORCED back into the MSM. Slowly, but surely, because of the power of the Internet, the MSM is being forced to cover this story and the questions raised about the authenticity of the memos.

Now, ironically enough, the MSM is having to choose sides - either the side of the blogosphere or the side of CBS/Rather. Interestingly, the MSM is trying to appear balanced by publishing the questions about the memos' authenticity, which actually places more pressure on Rather/CBS to come clean.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen!

Don't count on it, MSM is covering their ass, and refuse to publish the undesputable facts in their entirety.
Plus, they have completely skipped the Swift veteran rally,
and are pushing the DNC Bush bash stories, which are based on these very same fake docs.

You generalized too much from my post. With respect to Forgerygate, the MSM are having to walk a very tight line and appear to be more balanced rather (no pun intended) than swallow SeeBS' kool-aid. That doesn't mean that I think they are becoming more balanced and less liberal. Nothing could be further from the truth.

What I marvel at is how the power of the Internet and the blogosphere has increasingly forced to MSM to address this issue. That doesn't make them good guys; that demonstrates that the strength and power of the Internet has risen to rival and offset the power of the MSM to control the news. That's as big a story (to me) as the faked memos and Rather/SeeBS' stonewalling.

I put together a summary hitting most of the high points on this, at least as of a few days ago, and taking care to mention Buckhead at least a couple of times (this guy was WAY ahead of everyone).

After reading it, can ANYONE seriously doubt that the CBS memos are not only forgeries, but cheap forgeries at that?
