With two months left in a term truncated by scandal, Gov. James E. McGreevey is planning his post-government future, hunting for office space in the friendly confines of Middlesex County and for a home along the Hudson River waterfront.

First lady Dina Matos McGreevey, meanwhile, has been house-hunting in Cranford and nearby towns, indicating the couple's four-year marriage is unlikely to survive the governor's bombshell announcement last month that he is gay and had an adulterous affair with a man.
McGreevey, who set Nov. 15 as his resignation date, will be helped in his passage from public official to private citizen with up to $500,000 in taxpayer's money. Under state law, outgoing governors are permitted a transition fund for up to six months, though that term was extended for former Govs. Christie Whitman and Jim Florio.
Whitman also was allotted up to $500,000 for transition when she left office in 2001 to head the federal Environmental Protection Agency. She spent $367,000 over the following 10 months.
Florio, allocated $350,000, spent $294,000 over 12 months.
Former acting Gov. Donald DiFrancesco, though in office for just a year between Whitman and McGreevey, also was granted a transition budget. He spent $65,000.

As he prepares for life outside Drumthwacket, the governor's mansion in Princeton, McGreevey is receiving help from friends.
One of them, Sports and Exposition Authority Chairman George Zoffinger, said he's actively seeking office space for McGreevey in New Brunswick, in the heart of the governor's home county.
"New Brunswick would be a great place for the governor," Zoffinger said. "It's in the middle of the state. It's got a vibrant business community. ... He hasn't committed to anything, but he is looking."

Late last month, Matos McGreevey looked at a three-bedroom home in Cranford, in Union County.

He's gay? Wow.
Admitting you're gay kind of has a knack for forcing that in a relationship...
That tends to do it.
I will continue to believe the whole thing was a charade until he actually leaves his wife.
You think?
Yeah. I don't think many wives like the whole "I have a secret" confession that McGreedy gave.
It doesn't go over very well on the Jerry Springer episodes that I have watched.
I see you have been under a Bush lately. Did you know we also landed a man on the moon, too?
I here there's a great place available on Christopher St. in the Village. As an inducement to sign, there's unlimited crisco.
Who's leaving who?
Always take the high road, you %$#@'s
I see she likes pearl necklaces.
He's gay? Wow. >>
and he is corrupt too.
Does anybody know if she knew he was gay before all this came out?
It depends on who you believe. According to the folks in Woodbridge, McGreevey's love for the mens was an open secret that the town kinda had an idea about.
From the media reports, however, McGreevey came clean a day or so before he went on TV.
"Sports and Exposition Authority Chairman George Zoffinger, said he's actively seeking office space for McGreevey in New Brunswick,"
Further evidence that gay cannot find office space on their own.
SNL will have to bring back "The girl with no gaydar" skit
"friendly confines of Middlesex" somehow relates to a story about a married gay guy.
I've heard plenty of people claiming she did, and plenty claiming she didn't. I tend to believe she didn't know, but it's just a gut feeling on my part.
Drumthwacket??!! The gay governor lives in a mansion called Drumthwacket? Is this story from The Onion?
