Former secretary says she didn't type memos 04:10 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 14, 2004

By PETE SLOVER / The Dallas Morning News

HOUSTON – The former secretary for the Texas Air National Guard colonel who supposedly authored memos critical of President Bush’s Guard service said Tuesday that the documents are fake, but that they reflect real documents that once existed.

Marian Carr Knox, who worked from 1956 to 1979 at Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, said she prided herself on meticulous typing, and the memos first disclosed by CBS News last week were not her work.

“These are not real,” she told The Dallas Morning News after examining copies of the disputed memos for the first time. “They’re not what I typed, and I would have typed them for him.”

Mrs. Knox, 86, who spoke with precise recollection about dates, people and events, said she is not a supporter of Mr. Bush, who she deemed “unfit for office” and “selected, not elected.”

“I remember very vividly when Bush was there and all the yak-yak that was going on about it,” she said.

I wonder what she really said. Maybe she'll be on TV/radio soon and we'll know how credible she is (can you imagine the calls she's probably getting). It should be possible to validate her "precise recollection" if she gets talking. Too many inconsistencies here.

Umm, yeah.

Let's see the 'originals' appear and we can check--
literally--to see the age of the paper, whose fingerprints
are on them, etc.

They don't care about the issues that they raise either. They only want to fill the air waves with a deafening amount of nonsense, so drown out the questions about Kerry's Vietnam service and like someone else mentioned, the 9/11 memorials.

They have declined to say who provided 60 Minutes with the documents, other than that it was an “unimpeachable source”

I knew private citizen Bill Clinton was behind this.

This unbelieveably neat little story fits perfectly into the mantra of the Left: its not the nature of the evidence, its the seriousness of the charge. This is unreal.

Ummm, not really... for that to be the case, she would have had to have said that she in fact typed memos similar to the CBS ones. She just told the DMN reporter that she had not done so. Very strange.

Is this a parody? Someone speculated that the final defense would be "well, these are forgeries, but they reflect documents that used to exist, honest".

Dan Rather suggested this. He said it doesn't matter whether the docs are real, because the focus should be on the content which he knew to be real. Which implies he knew this story that the docs are fake but reflect allegedly former real docs. How pathetic.

"SHE IS LYING THAT THE FORGERIES REPRESENT DOCS THAT WERE ONCE AROUND."

hmmmmm, good point. You just sparked a thought in my diabolical mind.

Since Killian has been long deceased, there is only one person alive who would have known the content of those "documents that are no longer in existence", his secretary. So if the forgeries were based on real statements from real docs that are no longer around, then who gave the forgers the "real" information to forge them, if not herself?

For instance, she said, the use of the words “billets” and a reference to the “administrative officer” of Mr. Bush’s squadron reflect Army terminology rather than the Air National Guard. Some news reports attribute the CBS reports to a former Army National Guard officer who has a longstanding dispute with the Guard and has previously maintained that the president’s record was sanitized.

And, at the head of the stretch, the new leader is.............Bill Burkett!

Someone got to her and told her what to say, IMO, as evidenced by the selected, not elected B.S.

Her memory has been colorized - filled in with details that weren't actually there. Sort of like the forged memos.

CBS's way out:

I don't think he can admit the documents are fake and still claim journalistic privilege in the event of any legal challenge. Thus, he must pretend to the end to believe the incredible.

It's the same old lie..."The memos are fake but the information is accurate". She must be a CBS fan.

"“I remember very vividly when Bush was there and all the yak-yak that was going on about it,” she said."

It is seared in my memory, seared.

Yeah, that use of "yak-yak" just doesn't fit with an 86yo woman.

The more I think about this national guard forgery stuff the more I think that this is designed to be a DIVERSION from Kerry's senate record and Kerry himself.

It doesn't matter who GWB's opponent would have been, the RATS were already planning to pull this out. It's an attack on GWB's credibility in the only area they see a possible chink.

That may be why the dems turned to Kerry as " war hero" (cough) to be their nominee in the end, to counterpoint this perceived weakness, but mark my words, this attack on Dubya has always been in the works.

"selected, not elected.”

Shouldn't that be "Our typewriters were Selectic, not electric"?

Goebbels' Principle of The Big Lie worked for the DemRat Hype/Hate Machine.
