An opposition research staffer for the Democratic National Committee is said to have received the documents from a retired military officer six weeks ago. Senior DNC and Kerry staff members are said to have reviewed them, the latter supposedly passing them on to "60 Minutes."
Should these memos prove to be the forgeries some think they are, John Kerry will have dug his political grave. So, too, the Democratic Party.

I hope someone is following up on it.
No wonder Rather is rather falling on his own sword, than to release the name of the person he got the memos from.
So the truth is comming out. Danny is in BIG trouble now!
The American Spectator had a similar story at about the same time, though I've heard no more about it, other then that CBS was sitting on the documents for 6 weeks.
The article is from a Pittsburgh paper ... do I sense a little bit of "shove it!" solidarity here?
Wow....a three-fer: DNC, Kerry camp, AND CBS!
Where did they get their info is there any names mentioned, that anyone knows of, anywhere, in relation to this DNC link.
This would be huge
Gross exaggerations on what would result. OK, Dan would be sunk, and CBS would be seriously damaged, Bush would get some teflon against future NG attacks. Kerry didn't need any help from this to lose, so no help there. But will this help Republican Senate candidates? Hell no. Will it sink the Democrat party in general? Hell no. People, Republicans are losing several close senate races according to polls, get nervous, get working.
Burnett? Was that the retired military man interviewed that was very disgruntled, hated the Bushes. I would bet he originated these things, gave to Kerry camp.
If this happens too fast and Kerry resigns, who will fill his place on the ticket. Will it be Edwards and a new running mate. There is a good chance Kerry will have to resign after it is descoverd his campaign was responsible.
I guess that's why the Dems are even willing to discuss that the memos are phony, just as long as they can keep the real source being discovered.
I wish someone could really PROVE it, that it came from a Kerry staffer.
The article says that SENIOR DNC & Kerry staffers reviewed this -- this is not like the boy in the mailroom sent it to CBS.
Oh wow! LOL
Yeah, P-burg is a real democratic town. Lets keep it alive. We know what the prize is.
Well, it's an editorial...but sounds like somebody knows something.
Wait...I read it was Karl Rove who did it
Kerry will wash his hands, he will not resign.
But I hope voters will take a close look./
It would be nice, if Bush won by a landslide, with a real mandate.
Emily Will, a veteran document examiner from North Carolina, told ABC News she saw problems right away with the one document CBS hired her to check the weekend before the broadcast.
I found five significant differences in the questioned handwriting, and I found problems with the printing itself as to whether it could have been produced by a typewriter, she said.
Will says she sent the CBS producer an e-mail message about her concerns and strongly urged the network the night before the broadcast not to use the documents.
I told them that all the questions I was asking them on Tuesday night, they were going to be asked by hundreds of other document examiners on Thursday if they ran that story, Will said.
But the documents became a key part of the 60 Minutes II broadcast questioning President Bushs National Guard service in 1972. CBS made no mention that any expert disputed the authenticity.
I did not feel that they wanted to investigate it very deeply, Will told ABC News.
CBS Won't Deny Kerry Link to Forged Docs
In a development that could have devastating implications for John Kerry's presidential campaign, CBS News is refusing to say whether the top Democrat, his campaign aides or any other prominent party officials had anything to do with supplying "60 Minutes" with a National Guard memo about President Bush that experts say was forged. Asked about a Kerry connection to the forged memo, a senior CBS official told the New York Post, "I can't answer that question."
