I'm as heartened by the new technology that can make such a robot as I am for what it may discover.

"The American robot sent a camera through a small hole drilled in the block only to encounter another stone blocking the way."

Didn't the "other stone" have a brass handle on it?!

"Stone doors inside the Great Pyramid could not just be there as an ornament. They must have a function and hide something behind them," he said.

That doesn't sound like Zahi Hawass.

Yes, it is exciting, I'm still unsure as to what this new probe will be doing, will it try to drill past the second plug,(that stopped the last camera?) Anyway, -What do you think of Zahi Hawass? -I get the impression that he's weak on Egyptology and strong on Celebrity, acquisition of funds, P.R. etc. -He's always got some Geraldoesque scheme cooking, TV specials "never before seen chambers"...

Back in the 80's all you had to do to get take a tour of T.G.P. was show up. Now, you wait forever, get squeezed HARD in the wallet IF you can get through at all. I think it's pretty much closed except for *$pecial arrangement$

I hope they're ready to find a total of three doors in there.
Tutankamen's tomb had three stone plugs.

Here is more about Zahi's announcement:

"He added that work is underway in the radar project that will be used in revealing what is inside the ground between the second Pyramid and the Sphinx.

This came during the meeting that was held at the Nursery College, Alexandria University in which Dr. Hawwas stressed that the SCA is preparing for a giant project to uncover the sunken the monuments along the River Nile in collaboration with a US company. "

They already discovered one shaft between the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx.

2,500-Year-Old Hidden Tomb Found in Egypt
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1206236/posts

"CAIRO, Egypt - Egypt's antiquities chief on Thursday revealed a 2,500-year-old hidden tomb under the shadow of one of Giza's three giant pyramids, containing 400 pinkie-finger-sized statues and six coffin-sized niches carved into granite rock.

Zahi Hawass, the director of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, said archaeologists had been working for three months to clear sand from a granite shaft found between the pyramid of Khafre — also known by its Greek name of Chephren — Giza's second-largest tomb of a pharaoh, and the Sphinx. "

Reading about pyramids and mummies as a child gave me some of my greatest pleasures and terrors.

Zahi Hawass is really Hogwash. He has more opinions this way and that than Kerry, as long as it gets him publicity. His face will be chiseled off the Cairo Antiquities Building as soon as he is out of office.

These little shafts the robots explore were to let the RATS IN NOT spirits OUT

Would a robot be affected by the curse of the mummy?

I've seen the prior specials and writeups on this and I think this is another Capone's vault. The shaft is so small a human being couldn't fit in it - which is why a robot had to be sent into it. I think all they will find is air.

This is exciting & I am anxious to hear more but I am so claustrophobic that I can make myself nervous just thinking about going in there. LOL
