Federal agents surround ranch in Douglas, Arizona(VIDEO!)

TWO VIDEO LINKS ON RIGHT HAND SIDE PLAYLIST!!

An FBI agent shot an acquaintance of a border watch group member while trying to serve an arrest warrant, FBI officials said Thursday.

The shooting happened about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday in a grocery store parking lot in Douglas along the southeastern Arizona border with Mexico.

According to the FBI, the agent was trying to serve an arrest warrant on Casey Nethercott of Douglas. Nethercott is a known member of Ranch Rescue, a group that works to protect private property along the southern U.S. border.

Ranch Rescue and several other unauthorized groups have been patrolling along the border looking for illegal immigrants, raising concerns among migrants rights groups about potential abuses.

At the time, Nethercott was with 22-year-old Kalen Riddle, also of Douglas.

Charlene Thornton, special agent in charge of the Phoenix FBI office, said that "actions taken by Nethercott and Riddle led one of the FBI agents to fire his weapon."

The FBI would not elaborate and said it won't release the name of the agent who fired the shot, in keeping with FBI policy.

Riddle was airlifted to a Tucson hospital, but FBI officials did not know his condition.

Nethercott was arrested Wednesday and is in federal custody. An FBI spokeswoman confirmed agents searched Nethercott's Douglas ranch on Thursday afternoon.

The warrant the FBI was trying to serve alleges that Nethercott threatened Border Patrol agents.

According to the warrant, Nethercott refused to pull over for Border Patrol agents on Aug. 31. After a slow-speed chase, the warrant said that Nethercott entered "a compound in Douglas occupied by members of Ranch Rescue." Riddle was identified as one of the people there.

Agents said the Ranch Rescue members were heavily armed and had night vision equipment.

After Border Patrol agents yelled for Nethercott to show his hands, the affidavit says Nethercott refused, and responded:

"I'm going to take care of this myself, we're going to have a shootout."

The affidavit does not say how the standoff ended.

There was no listing for Riddle in Douglas. A phone message left Thursday at a residence listed for Nethercott was not returned.

Nethercott, 37, has a criminal record. He was convicted of assault with a firearm in California and was on parole when he joined Ranch Rescue.

In June, he was also found guilty by a Texas jury of felony firearm possession. The jury was deadlocked on a second charge that accused Nethercott of pistol-whipping an illegal immigrant near a Texas ranch.

Douglas rancher Roger Barnett, who is not part of Ranch Rescue, supports the measures Nethercott took to stop illegal immigration.

He compared the shooting of Riddle to Branch Davidians, who fought federal agents in Waco, Texas.

"Citizens have to get out and protect themselves," Barnett said. "And this is what it leads to."

Here's the difference between Bush and Clinton. Under Bush, they wait for the guy and nail him in a parking lot.

Under Clinton. They ignore such opportunities and wait until he goes back to the "compound" and end up with dead officers and quite a few bar-b-qued children.

Just another viewpoint.

Okay, Border Action Network appears to be a pro-Aztlan thyp group, found here: Border Action Network Website

For a different view of this group, visit: a different view

Once again, the people who are defining extremism are the same folks who defined extremism under Clinton.

I'm beginning to think that something goes seriously wrong with the mind when a small group of men gather together in an isolated area with a stock of weapons.

Don't go elk hunting, then.

How come they do not stop the illegals from coming across the border. They go after an American instead ofter a citizens instead of the terrorist. Just like before 9/11. The purpose of the federal government is to protect the American people. Go get the people who are sneaking into our country.

Amen! People do not understand the consequences of illegal immigration.

It seems that our political elites have made the decision not only that they are going to allow our country to be stolen from us, but that they will preempt any attempt by the citizenry to protect itself, using various pretexts such as violating the rights of illegal invaders, forming and training as paramilitary groups, etc...We the people seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, if we stand by and do nothing, we lose our nation and the future of our children. On the other, if we organize to protect ourselves, we become outlaws. I would suppose that at some point the people are going to have to address the question, i.e., do they fear the government more, or the invaders (remembering that the invaders include ME Muslim young men from states known to sponsor terrorism)? As for voting for President Bush, why would one vote for a President when it is patently obvious that he is part and parcel of that betrayal? I am not advocating a vote for Kerry, who is worse if only in that he would take us along the road to hell by the most direct route, whereas the President is leading by the sceneic...

That the timing of this confrontation should roughly coincide with the sunset of the semi-automatic rifle ("assault weapons") ban raises an eyebrow

This has been in the making for almost 3 years and has nothing to do with "sunset of the semi-automatic rifle ("assault weapons") ban".

Do you see Bush doing anything about it? Or even promising to do anything about it...

No, I only said I was holding my nose on this issue, the same as the other poster said.

Bush can do nothing about this issue, at least not in the run up to the election. The libs and the left would skewer him over it calling it a racist policy. The left will not touch the issue. Bush will not touch the issue.

Does that make it right? No. And I think you and I agree on that point. We also agree, I think, that the border should be controlled. My only disagreement with you was your response to the other poster, albeit a small disagreement. We are, after all, friends on the same side. FReepRegards!

Border Patrol is primarily supposed to interact with with foreigners, NOT Americans.

For the most part you are correct, however there is no shortage of Americans out there actively smuggling narcotics, aliens and anything else to make a profit.

This entire episode could have been avoided if he would have just pulled over when requested to. The stop would probably have lasted less than 30 seconds. But guys like this always believe the law does not apply to them.

I GUESS RANCHES ONLY IN CRAWFORD TEXAS ARE PRIVATE PROPERTY.

They're probably supplying water stations for the "migrants" and inviting them to Sunday dinner too. Someone should put up signs pointing to Crawford.

Someone did here in Arizona...

This was across the highway from the Naco Border Patrol Station for months.

"You people make me sick."

You were sick, already.

This man has not been convicted of pistol whipping anyone.

That's all in your head.

You take the word of a lying, thieving, criminal, border-jumping, illegal alien over that of a U.S. citizen?

You're "sick" alright.

You can think I'm sick. I think you could be a dangerous extremist with no sense of right and wrong.

Let's leave it at that.

Actually, I fully realize you probably are not emotionally capable of that, if your like minded friends here are any indication. I got hateful freep mail from them all night long.

So, I understand if you just can't control yourself and feel the need to further bash me.

Carry on.

Just another viewpoint.
99.9% of the investigation of the Davidians was under George H. W. Bush in 1992; methinks that the real 'facts' of an issue matter less than good 'feelings' that promote a particular idealogy and take issue with the 'bogy man' popular at the time ...

Yeah, he is out of control. But the border problems demand this kind of response.

I blame it on Asa Hutchinson, for his absolute refusal to patrol the borders and enforce our laws.

They wouldn't have even been there...to get out of control if the people we pay to take care of this weren't selling us out. Adrenaline pumps...sh!t happens.

Looking at their page, I don't see a problem with what they are doing. Plus, when they scored big and took out people transporting dope...they didn't keep it to sell off or ingest.

Shows their integrity, and that they are people forced into these actions.

IMO

Nope. Read again.

According to the FBI, the agent was trying to serve an arrest warrant on Casey Nethercott of Douglas.

feds had this planned. Or so they thought. Pi$$ poor plan to execute a warrant in a uncontrolled area (grocery store parking lot) but it does clearly reveal the mentality of the feds. They don't have to answer to the law, they can hide behind badges, shoot whom they please and rewrite the circumstances in their "FD-302 - Form for Reporting Information That May Become Testimony" so they wind up with sloppy work that is flushed down a memory hole.

THEN they further demonstrate their disregard for the law in their attempt to search the Nethercott ranch without a warrant....

the feds report to the media the following...

On Thursday, Herskovits said, investigators conducted a search at Nethercott's residence in Douglas.

"We're just conducting a search," Herskovits said. "They (agents) said it's extremely quiet."

But to search the "compound" (just gotta toss some propaganda, don't they?) they assumed they were just gonna BS their way in......

"agents arrived, and using night-vision equipment, observed at least three more Ranch Rescue members concealed behind bushes and a car inside the compound. The agents decided to back off to defuse the situation and get a warrant.

What stopped the feds attempt to perform a warrant less search? Men with guns. Men with guns is what it took before the feds would follow the law.

Your statement "But guys like this always believe the law does not apply to them." seems to apply to the feds, not Nethercott. Nethercots actions resemble those of a reasonable person reacting to unreasonable circumstance. The actions of the feds resemble those of a bunch of thugs.
