This debate doesn't matter IMHO, he is delusional and is just lying again. Like the CIA hat and the flying dog and Cambodia and his metals and throwing away his metals and his cars and... well you get the point.

Tomorrow, he will say something just the opposite of what he said today, and he will not even know he did it.

Everything is Vietnam. Every question, issue, policy, decision, debate, everything is about Vietnam.

Everytime he speaks, my friends, my wife, and I have a pool on how many words he will say before he mentions Vietnam.

I swear, he is a nut and he needs a psychological examination. I'm not kidding!

The guy is certifiable. (must be post traumatic stress or something...?)

I am more interested in the fact that it propably has a bayonet lug and a flash supressor. Both these items are on the Assault Weapons Ban list of no-no items!

What would you want to bet that he bought one of these SKSs back in the early 80's and told everyone that he took it off a dead VC that he "whacked" back in Nam....
I think the feds should get up in his grill!

Knowing the lefties definition of "assault rifles" It is likely a SKS, or could even be a model 1891 Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifle.

Well, CBS *thought* this rifle was a Chinese model from the Vietnam era, but the superscripted Chinese characters not present in stamping equipment of the time shows that it was actually a recent Norinco knockoff.

Dan Rather stands by his original broadcast, claiming the rifle is authentic.

"It is a Warsaw Pact rifle - commie made - but a damn fine weapon. I still use my Chinese SKS for deer hunting. It's pretty accurate up to 150-175 yards or so. The 7.62 X 39 soft core ammo drops 'em in their tracks."

That was the first thought when I heard he said "I've never used an AK for deer hunting." Try it John, you might be surprised. Similar power to a .30-30 (my understanding is that it's more powerful at extended ranges than a .30-30, but up close the .30-30 wins hands down), which sure as hell has taken down many a deer. I mean, the 7.62x39 is probably even cheaper than the .30-30. And out of a full-length barrel SKS, more velocity than an AK.

Darn you, Mr. Simmons, now you make me want to fondle my SKS.

"Both these items are on the Assault Weapons Ban list of no-no items!"

It would only confirm my theory that the folks who write these unconstitutional crap bans don't even know what the hell they're talking about, and probably couldn't ID those parts on a given rifle. People that have never handled a gun, or have but support idiocy like that shouldn't write gun policy. It's all based in ignorance.

I picked the more expensive one. Bush ain't Kerry rich, but he's not a pauper. If I were him, I'd go for the really nice one. I'd imagine his actually get used outside of photo ops tho.

"You will give your rifle a GIRL'S NAME,..."

Full Metal Jacket, right?

I named my Harley (Miss Dixie Rose) and several of my guitars...but none of my guns. Thanks for reminding me that I need to do so!

By the way - did I mention that john kerry sucks. :-)

I agree that the majority of this crab legislation is "feel good" garbage.
I did read that drive by stabbing have been down since the removal of bayonet lugs, so that is good!

Well, feel good in the sense that the ignorant love it because it gives some aura of "increased safety" (I could probably sell them rocks I found in a pond as being "magical."). The major players pushing it though, IMHO are up to something more sinister. Or if they're given the benefit of the doubt, they are tremendous idiots.

He got it chasing out the Japs from Japan in WWII.

I had Dan Rather fax me over the inside plans for the Kerry campaign. The Kerry campaign has decided that WWII vets are more popular so will be dropping the I Served in Vietnam and switch to Kerry's accomplishments in WWII tomorrow.
