Calls prompt warning of scam
A state election official said someone is either trying to commit voter fraud or identity theft by calling registered voters and asking them for personal information.
The callers tell voters if they do not give out certain information they will not be able to vote, Michael Clingman, state Election Board secretary said.
The people who have made calls identify themselves as the state voter registration board or the NAACP, Clingman said. Clingman said there is no state voter board, and the NAACP is not making these calls.
Call to action PING!!!
I have no doubt that voter fraud will be thru the roof this time around. The Dems are setting the table for it now. It seems that most every swing state is having a large number of absentee ballot requests. I hope the Republicans are on top of this!!
And if you're stupid enough to fall for it, you don't deserve to vote.
Amen sisterhood.
Were they asking for people's mastercard numbers?
I get e-mails from time to time that appear to be from my bank asking for my personal information. It says that it's mandatory that I provide it. Of course, I just delete them, but I bet there are lots of people out there that provide whatever they ask for.
The call went kind of like this:
HER: Hi, I'm from the NAACP. Are you registered to vote?
ME: Yes, both my wife and I registered.
HER: Oh, we don't show you as registered..You will need to register again.
ME: No, I don't think so...Because we haven't moved, and we just recently voted in the primaries.
HER: No, you will have to re-register. Who do you support for the POTUS?
ME: ( A little louder...hehehe ) OH, we are BOTH REPUBLICAN's...and PROUD TO BE VOTING FOR GWB...and Dick Cheney!!!
HER: ( She kind of laughed, maybe nervously...) Well, you will have to re-register..and we will send you some forms to fill out.
ME: Whatever...send what you like. Bye-bye.
I figured that would be the end of it....Never did I really think she was from the NAACP....but guess what?
Today, my wife and I both get letters in the mail from the NAACP...with Voter Registration Applications enclosed.
The letter is NAACP baloney........pretty much. But I'm wondering what the deal is exactly....( Of course I know it's bogus..and we don't need to re-register..) But, what about some ignorant moron? They fill the registration out...and it get's mailed to NY....and it is "checked" REPUBLICAN...will they forward it back here...to the voter registration folks..or will they trash it?
OR....is this some sinister plan to have double voting going on?
I'm sort of baffled about it...I don't have a criminal mind...so maybe I'm not thinking of all the angles.
Any FReeper ideas?
FRegards,
That's another scam going on right now. You and I know that your bank would not ask for personal information through email but a lot of people don't. People really need to start using common sense and educating themselves on these types of situations.
Although we are going to have a pretty important Senator ( Coburn vs. Carson..) election...and alot of DNC money is coming into the state for that election.
We heard this on the local news, and we think it's an attempt to get double votes. There have been plenty of warnings about this scam, which raises the question--why isn't someone clamping down on the NAACP for this blatant scam?
And by the way, the first time this appeared on the local news, I think on the ABC affiliate, they implied that it was REPUBLICANS trying to steal votes from 'Rats and blacks. Obviously, it's the other way around!
FWIW-
What makes you think it is not NAACP? They can claim they are not making calls.
I'm not following you....
I know it was the NAACP...they called, and then sent me a letter with their name on it.
Quote from the article:
The people who have made calls identify themselves as the state voter registration board or the NAACP, Clingman said. Clingman said there is no state voter board, and the NAACP is not making these calls.
I guess I don't understand your post since the article says this is some type of SCAM and you claim it was the NAACP that called you.
Clingman is wrong, or misinformed. ( Hey, he works for the state..what do you expect...hehehe )
Yes, the article stated that it wasn't the NAACP....well I'm here to tell you I got called by someone claiming to be from the NAACP...and THEN I got a letter from the NAACP. So I guess it really WAS the NAACP that called me...
Is that any clearer....or is it like muddy water now? lol!!!
FRegards,
That is exactly what I thought you were saying but admittedly my response was not very clear. Can't put anything past any of them, they will do anything and everything.
I stated to them...that I thought it was a scam...as the NAACP tried to make people think they weren't registered.
The lady I spoke with said the NAACP was just trying to get people to register. I asked her, "So, you don't think it was disingenous to lie to people about their voter registration?" She said, "But it wasn't a scam." Geesh..!!!
I didn't even go into my thinking that if you register as a Republican and send it to the NAACP...it will hit the "round file"...I just said, "Obviously you don't care about this...Good-bye." And I hung up.........
Big waste of time....
