Prayer request for my Dad
me ^ | 9/23/04 | texasflower

Posted on 09/23/2004 3:51:08 AM PDT by texasflower

Hi everyone. My Dad has had two strokes in the last few days. He is only 64 years old. So far, he is very weak and confused but is still able to talk. The doctor is warning of the strong possibility of more strokes with progressing severity.

Will you please pray for my dad and my family as we deal with this?

Thank you all. It means so much.

Hey texas, sorry I'm a little late. I will certainly pray for you and your Dad. I am very close to my Dad and can imagine how I would feel if I were in your shoes. Keep your chin up and just remember that he's still the same guy inside. Just because the words and thoughts don't come out the way they're supposed to, doesn't mean his thoughts are scrambled. Hugs are wonderful things. (One for you, too!)

Hello everyone. I am writing to update all of you on my Dad's condition and to thank you for praying for him and my family.

As I said before, my Dad is 64 years old and he had two strokes about a month ago. The doctor told us to prepare for more strokes and further decline in his condition.

He has been in the hospital since that time. He has not had any more strokes as far as we can tell, however he has weakened a great deal. He has not been able to eat and he has been vomiting every day since September 23.

Today, he made the decision to go on hospice care. So tomorrow, we will take him home, so he can be with his little dog and die at home.

He is very much at peace with this decision and so are we. He smiled today for the first time in 4 weeks, when we told him he would be at home tomorrow afternoon.

Because he is a dialysis patient and a diabetic, he will probably decline fairly quickly, since he will not be going back for another appointment.

They are telling us it may be a week or so.

As I said, we are all at peace with this, but there is one thing he wants to do before he loses consciousness.

What is one of his last requests? Well......he wants to VOTE for President Bush.

During his hospital stay he has kept a Bush/Cheney bumpersticker on the window of his hospital room and one on his wheelchair.

He has talked politics with his nurses and has at least one who has decided to change her vote from Kerry to Bush. (Yes, she was being sincere, not just telling him that!)

Anyway, if I might ask for prayer for him one last time, will you pray that we can get an absentee ballot to him on time?

It would mean alot to him.

Thank you all so much for your prayers! God Bless you all.

Tammy

Texasflower - the first few days will be very important for you, and very trying for you. The thing about strokes is that there is usually some swelling that goes with them. As the swelling subsides, your Dad may very well recover some, or almost all, of what he seems to have lost.

It was that way with my own mother, at the age of about 68. She got 95% back, or more. Keep the faith.

Your father is a remarkable man and one that Heaven will open its gates wide for.
Lord if it be thy will, allow this man, one of your children, to be able to vote his conscience in this election that seems more and more each day as a race of good values and morality against the dark forces of evil. May you give strength and comfort to the family that will join their loved one at another time.
Amen

Prayers for your Dad's comfort- and for the arrival of a speedy absentee ballot for him- since it is his wish. May God bless him always.

Thank you for pinging your list for my dad.

I think we can get him in a wheelchair, but he has trouble using his hands. Maybe I'll call tomorrow and see if he is allowed to have help in the booth.

Do you have any idea if we can do that?
