Kerry Might Reconsider USFK Reductions: Sandy Berger
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sandy Berger, former White House National Security Advisor and key foreign policy and security advisor to Democratic Party presidential candidate John Kerry, hinted Wednesday that should Kerry win the U.S. presidential election in November, it was possible that the decision to reduce U.S. troops in Korea would be reconsidered.
In a keynote address for an international symposium entitled "Regionalism in Northeast Asia: Opportunities and Challenges," hosted by Johns Hopkins University and the Maeil Business Newspaper, Berger said USFK reductions were inappropriate, claiming that pulling 12,000 troops out of Korea at a time when Koreans were openly raising doubts about the Korea-U.S. relationship was sending a bad signal to Koreans. He said he strongly wondered whether John Kerry, if elected, wouldn't reconsider the reduction.
Berger indicated once again the need for direct talks between the U.S. and North Korea to solve the North Korean nuclear issue, stressing that sitting face-to-face with North Korea was not surrender. On the contrary, he said the U.S. could take a strong position.
He said the two biggest challenges in Northeast Asia were North Korea and Taiwan, and the next U.S. president would have to focus on eliminating North Korea's nuclear weapons development project and make clear to China that the use of arms against Taiwan would not be tolerated.

I believe that if the North Koreans come across the DMZ in force, we will respond with tactical nukes. We have already depleted our ground force commitment to the ROK with one 2ID brigade having just served a year in Iraq and, I believe, another 2ID brigade slated for Stryker conversion stateside.
Who told him he could open up his pie hole??
Actually, this moron helps Bush more by staying out of jail and helping Kerry. With advisers like this, Kerry is certain to lose.
Too bad the last president didn't pay attention to NK rather than BJs.
Isn't President Bush already addressing the two biggest challenges in Northeast Asia? President Bush is trying to eliminate N. Korea's WMD development (unlike Clinton and Berger who trusted the DPRK to keep its word) and is selling weapons to Taiwan to defend itself should China attack (unlike Clinton and Berger who allowed China to improve their Nuclear targeting ability). I feel much better about a Republican administration handling the security of Taiwan than I do a Democrat one. After all, it was Carter that granted formal diplomatic status to the PRC and told Taiwan to take a hike. Reagan and Bush 41 sold weapons to Taiwan and stressed that we would defend Taiwan should China attack.
Thought he resigned...
Wr can only hope if Bush wins he will FINALLY clean out all the damn Clinton leftovers
AND
Do some serious prosecuting of crimes starting with Sandy Berger's document theft and an investigation into the forged documents for starters
Berger's crime would have never dropped off the radar if he was a GOP operative
Didn't this guy go to jail for theft of classifed material? Come on General Ashcroft, let's get this guy off the streets.

Sounds like Berger may still be advising the Effin' Kerry campaign
Is this the same guy that stuffed archived files down his pants, in his socks? Stoled from history? Why would anyone interview him or care what he had to say? He should be in the slammer.
"key foreign policy and security advisor to Democratic Party presidential candidate John Kerry"
Yet another reason not to vote Kerry/Edwards. Why is Berger still on the stage? The Clinton administration clown car has rolled back into town and is purging a cavalcade of temporarily forgotten self-promoters itching for a job in the next administration. As I recall Berger, Albright and Holbrook looked the other way during the genocide in Rwanda. They should be permanently banned from public office, yet they keep resurfacing to nothing but praise from the MSM.
So maybe Freepers weren't so far off about Sandy Burglar being involved in the CBS documents scandal. LOL!
Even more funny is how at this point in the campaign, Kerry mystically takes the opposite approach on every single thing Bush is doing or has done. How transparent. This guy is just an empty suit. He doesn't just have a broken moral compass, he never had one in the first place.
That's right. September is month 9, odd numbered. Last month it was ganz verboten to reduce troop strength in SK. That was an even-numbered month. See - it's consistent.
I'll vote for:"Sandy Burgler should be under A HOUSE"...
Kerry campaign just got caught taking taking money from Korean intelligence sources!
He's already paying dividends for S. Korea. With American boys.
What a whore Kerry is.
This fails to articulate a rationale for keeping troops in S. Korea. S. Korea is a mature nation with a huge economy and more than enough resources to defend itself from an attack from the North. Removing troops does not deminish the US ability to deter a Northern attack. Don't our most recent military engagements with large, conventional forces tell us that airpower can cripple mechanized units at range?. The South can and must handle their own ground defense and are more than capable. Just like Germany, they have a significant % of their population who don't want us there. I say fine. Time for the boys to come home.
get a load of this.
