Ready Floridians? I don't see the urgency created by Frances or Ivan (Charlie didn't generate much - perhaps because he was first). Maybe folks are just weary at this point.

Very weary. This is a sudden storm; a lot of people still have their plywood up (like me...).

No panicking here. If you want to live in the Sunshine State, you have to pay the price. One price is hurricane season. The other price is liberal immigration from the North.

No rest for the weary.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I left my boards up too. I also didn't have to do much in the way of replenishing other supplies :-)

Hey, at least I get to try out my new weather gear. Put up remote sensors for anemometer, barometer and rain gauge.

High pressure yesterday - 1015
Current pressure - 1011

This should keep me occupied ;-)

Shutters up, beer in the fridge, generator fueled, plenty of propane and charcoal, nothing left to do but laugh at folks in the paper who are blaming Bush for the hurricanes.

My camping gear is still out. Managed to find a single gallon can of Coleman gas yesterday. Plenty of D batteries to keep my XM Satellite Radio up and running with the Fox News audio feed!

I went to WalMart late last night and I was shocked, shocked I tell you, at the amount of Coleman gas, propane and flashlights still on the shelves. All the 'D' batteries were gone though.

Heck, all that stuff was gone days before Frances and Ivan.

I need to put my generator thru its paces today. Hook up my mini-fridge to it and let it run. At least I still have tons of fuel left from when Ivan bypassed.

Best of luck to all of you down there riding out yet another one. Stay safe - especially during and afterwards.

Well, what sucks is that I took down the boards over the sliding glass doors. I'm down here in Sunrise, just west of Ft. Lauderdale. I don't think we're going to get a direct Breakfast slam from this thing, but I do have charcoal, some food, flashlights, etc. I suspect we'll end up getting TS force winds again. The only pain is that when all this is done, my brother in law and I will have to go up and do some shingle repair.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I bought a box of tapcons and one of deck screws yesterday, just in case.

My shutters are still up too, mostly, but some of the old fittings have failed, so I want to be ready to reinforce them if Jeanne, named after my wife, decides to come here.

"Shutters up, beer in the fridge"

I am seriesly thinking about a beer. This hurricane season in going to drive me to drink, or to religion, or maybe to both!

...if Jeanne, named after my wife...

LOL! Does this mean she'll come and stay awhile or come, wipe you out and then leave in a huff? :-)

I bought tapcons a few days ago. Don't know why other than I couldn't find a one near Frances time. I had to use masonry nails. What a pita.

You might be a Floridian if …

You have more than 20 C and D batteries in your kitchen drawer.

The freezer in your garage is full of homemade ice.

You flinch when you are introduced to a person named Charley, Frances or Ivan.

You find yourself dropping words like "millibar" and "convection" into
everyday conversation.

Your pantry contains more than 10 cans of Spaghetti Os.

Making coffee on your propane grill does not seem like an odd thing to do.

You are thinking of repainting your house to match the plywood covering your
windows.

When describing your house to a prospective buyer, you say it has three
bedrooms, two baths and one safe place.

You are on a first-name basis with the cashier at Home Depot.

You are delighted to pay $2 for a gallon of unleaded.

The road leading to your house has been declared a No-Wake Zone.

You decide that your patio furniture looks better on the bottom of the pool.

You have the number for FEMA on your speed dialer.

You own more than three large coolers.

You can wish that other people get hit by a hurricane and not feel the least
bit guilty about it.

Three months ago you couldn't hang a shower curtain; today you can assemble a
portable generator by candlelight.

You catch a 5-pound catfish. In your driveway.

You can recite from memory whole portions of your homeowner's insurance
policy.

At cocktail parties, women are attracted to the guy with the biggest chain
saw.

You have had tuna fish more than 5 days in a row.

There is a roll of tar paper in your garage.

You can rattle off the names of three or more meteorologists who work at the
Weather Channel.

Someone comes to your door to tell you they found your roof.

Ice is a valid topic of conversation.

Relocating to North Dakota does not seem like such a crazy idea.

What kind of weather station did you buy?

I almost got a divorce over my weather station collection ;)

Look guys....I just sent all my children back to Florida (well, one d-i-l is still here, but supposed to leave Sunday).

Don't tell me they are all about to come back. I haven't got my house returned to order yet. Plus, my hubby and I were looking forward to some..hmm...uh...quiet time.

We DO NOT NEED this again!!!!
