WSJ: The Florida Myth
Wall Street Journal ^ | September 28, 2004 | Editorial

Posted on 09/28/2004 5:13:08 AM PDT by OESY

...Senator Jon Corzine: "Voter suppression and intimidation . . . in Florida again!? The GOP used voter intimidation and outright fraud to hand Florida to George W. Bush in 2000, and if we don't stop them, they'll do it again."

Yes, the political urban legend that black voters in Florida were harassed and intimidated on Election Day four years ago is making a comeback. Only yesterday Jimmy Carter, fresh from blessing Hugo Chavez's dubious victory in Venezuela, moaned that in 2000 "several thousand ballots of African Americans were thrown out on technicalities" in Florida, and that this year more black than (Republican) Hispanic felons are being disqualified to vote -- as if all felons weren't supposed to be barred, regardless of race.

As the Corzine letter and the "Jim Crow" pamphlet nearby suggest, this is all election-year demagoguery. Democrats and their acolytes are raising this myth from the dead to scare up black turnout and lay the groundwork for challenges in court if John Kerry loses. So, before Dan Rather concludes this is another scoop, let's all remember the fraud that didn't happen in 2000.

In June 2001, following a six-month investigation that included subpoenas of Florida state officials from Governor Jeb Bush on down, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights issued a report that found no evidence of voter intimidation, no evidence of voter harassment, and no evidence of intentional or systematic disenfranchisement of black voters.

Headed by a fiercely partisan Democrat, Mary Frances Berry, the Commission was very critical of Florida election officials (many of whom were Democrats). For example, "Potential voters confronted inexperienced poll workers, antiquated machinery, inaccessible polling locations, and other barriers to being able to exercise their right to vote." But the report found no basis for the contention that officials conspired to disenfranchise voters....

Carter's vicious racial politicking is despicable for anyone, and more so for an ex president. He is either senile or he knows perfectly well what he is saying is dangerous nonsense.

I don't think we could ever successfully argue that at any time Jimmy Carter knew what he was saying or doing. Anyone who suffered through that reign of terror known as the Carter presidency knows that.

"Ah HAH!! The absence of any evidence whatsoever is proof positive itself, that there were secret means of massive voter disenfranchisement!" (The wonders of a diseased 'Rat mind)

" . . . the political urban legend that black voters in Florida were harassed and intimidated on Election Day four years ago . . . "

That was proved to be totally untrue back then and we in Florida resent very much that it was ever even suggested in the first place. I eagerly anticipate a resounding victory for Bush in Florida AGAIN, despite crap like this.

In the Beginning was The Lie. And The Lie was with The Left. And The Lie was The Left.

And The Lie was brought unto the places wherein dwelled The Sheep. And The Sheep beheld The Lie, and saw that it was good; and The Sheep followed The Lie, and The Left, for they were as one.

And The Sheep shall always believe The Lie.

Using Ter-ay-za's word, Carter is a scumbag.

He has always been a very mean, vindictive, cold man. He continues to try dividing America for partisan reasons. He is a disgrace.

Democrat's favorite tactic....'fear mongering'...generate hysteria among those who don't bother to check facts...yet still get to vote...and determine govt. for the rest of us...

One man one vote crap is killin' the America of our founders...

People should have to pass a battery of IQ tests, have served honorably in the military, and own property before they are allowed to vote...

imo

I know that a lot of delusional leftists want to believe all this nonsense, I just can't figure how, in light of the US Civil Rights Commission report on FloriDUH, they can. Also, I can't fathom how they have managed to ignore the audit conducted by the different newspapers that concluded that Bush won the state fairly.

More kool-aid?

To find the best Democrats to vote, you need look no further than America's prison system.

The inhabitants have taken the Democrat playbook one chapter further.

They are not willing to wait for government to handout largesse.

They have gone out and stolen, raped and murdered their way into Democrat hierarchy!

one who suffered through that reign of terror known as the Carter presidency knows that.

What was wrong with 20% mortgage rates, 7% unemployment and 13% inflation? At least he invented the Department of Energy that didn't create any energy.

Facts, such as these, have no relevance as far as the enemy Dimocrat war machine is concerned.

Corazine is a leader in the corrupted state of N.J. and will work with other enemy leaders to bring Florida and it's minions, many of whom are mental defectives, over to the slubime idiocy that is socialistic Communism.

The Democrat Party is a cancerous growth that has spread throughout this land, rotting the minds and souls of good Americans everywhere.

The action needed, of course, is the application of a scalpel to that malignancy. The only question is should the patient be given anesthesia prior to the operation.

I like to think that the racial demagoguery convinces many more honorable voters to vote for the reps.

We have a secret plan to commit voter atrocities in Florida. The hurricanes damaged many polling places in democrat controlled areas and we will be late to announce the new polling places. The hurricanes and the late announcements are both the dastardly work of the Bush family and the RNC and only a small part of the overall secret plan!!!

Jimmah Carter and Kerry are smart enough to see through our secret plan and knew of the plan before we did. I wish we weren't so dumb and could get away with it! The DNC is hiring a lawyer to go to the polls with each democrat voter. The lawyer is to file a suit before the voter votes and another suit immediately after they vote.

I have bought cloaking devices to hide the polls. I have hacked into the database for the voting machines. Rather than give Florida to Bush, which would be to obvious, Nader will win Florida. This is why Kerry has a suit trying to keep Nader of the Florida Ballot.

Got to run now, the mother ship is waiting!
