John Kerry flubs Good Morning America

GMA

John Kerry was apparently on Good Morning America and The Note snippets this baffling exchange:

DIANE SAWYER: Was the war in Iraq worth it?

JOHN KERRY: We should not have gone to war knowing the information that we know today.

DS: So it was not worth it.

JK: We should not — it depends on the outcome ultimately — and that depends on the leadership. And we need better leadership to get the job done successfully, but I would not have gone to war knowing that there was no imminent threat — there were no weapons of mass destruction — there was no connection of Al Qaeda — to Saddam Hussein! The president misled the American people — plain and simple. Bottom line.

DS: So if it turns out okay, it was worth it?

JK: No.

DS: But right now it wasn't?p>

JK: It was a mistake to do what he did, but we have to succeed now that we've done what he's — I mean look — we have to succeed. But was it worth — as you asked the question — $200 billion and taking the focus off of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda? That's the question. The test of the presidency was whether or not you should have gone to war to get rid of him. I think, had the inspectors continued, had we done other things — there were plenty of ways to keep the pressure on Saddam Hussein.

DS: But no way to get rid of him.

JK: Oh, sure there were. Oh, yes there were. Absolutely.

DS: So you're saying that today, even if Saddam Hussein were in power today it would be a better thing — you would prefer that . . .

JK: No, I would not prefer that. And Diane — don't twist here. Notice how Kerry loses his cool and accuses the questioner of twisting; Is this guy thin-skinned or what?

In tomorrow's debate, Kerry will benefit from lowered expectations because his image among voters is something of a caricature right now. But he still has to do better than he did on GMA. You can bet President Bush has a list of zingers that he will deploy if Kerry gives him an opening. Posted by PoliPundit at 10:09 am Link to this post | Comments (21)

Because he's orange.

Kerry is still lying that there were no connections between Al Qaeda and Iraq.

He must not have read the Senate Intelligence Committee Report or the 9/11 Commission Report, both of which cited the many connections between Iraq and AQ.

A high ranking Iraqi fedayeen soldier attended at least one pre planning 9/11 meeting with AQ.

Saddam knew 9/11 was coming and where we were going to be hit.

Even the Clinton Justice Department was able to obtain an indictment against OBL which cited the terrorist's ties to Iraq.

A federal judge has granted two 9/11 families a multi-million dollar judgement - against Iraq.

During the 90's, the mainstream press wrote about the world's alarm at the growing relationship between Saddam and Osama bin Laden. Old Media thinks we can't look these things up.

Hundreds of articles and links in this thread.

Kerry is so hollow. I can't stand him. Anybody pushing this poision on the American people is no friend of liberty. This guy is unfit for command for so many reasons.

If he says anything even remotely like this during the debate, it will officially be over.

I hope Bushs aids are taking notes....all they have to do to get Kerry riled and showing his temper is to continue telling the truth about this....Kerry would prefer Saddam Hussein still be in power....that's what he is saying...he will self destruct!!!

I hate when he makes it about money... The lives of my children are priceless. If he wants to hang that 200 billion dollar price tag on his own kids then he needs to say that ... don't include me... I spent 22 years on active duty fighting for this country and its freedoms and I'll be damned if someone is going to associate a monetary value to Freedom. Let Beslan Russia serve as a cruel reminder of exactly what is at stake in this war. If we will not fight the terrorists in the streets of IRAQ than we will be forced to fight them in the School Yards of America. The President needs to tell John Kerry that the true statesman, in speaking of Freedom and Liberty (John F Kennedy) the real JFK once said "We must bear any burden and pay any price"... and John Kerry is no JFK if he is going to put a dollar sign on FREEDOM and LIBERTY.

J. Effin' K. applying that keen analytical mind, shaing his answers in multiples of grey.

Oh, and the nuance. The NUANCE!

President Bush was right about Kerry. He said the man could spend hours debating himself.

He strikes me as either being disingenuous or indecisive.

It was bound to happen eventually, and it happened in front of Diane Sawyer: Ketchup Boy flip-flopped within a flip-flop...

I caught a few minutes of this. Glad to see Diane kind of gave him a hard time.

The more we see of him, the less people like him. He should stay out of camera shot, really. Face is still orange!

It's not Diane who is twisted up like a pretzel telling to explain it. We all really want to understand your position. All we get is a 'yes' in one sentence, then a flip to a 'no' in the next, followed by an 'it depends'. There are 5 flips in this short exchange alone.

Did anyone else see this interview? Diane Sawyer held up large color pictures of Kerry windsurfing and snowboarding and asked him how he felt it compared to pictures she held up of W clearing brush on the ranch. He said "well, I've done that too, but they didn't take pictures of it." It was hilarious.

Then she said that windsurfing and snowboarding weren't activities the typical American to relate to, and he said it wasn't true, that the guys who go with him are carpenters and electricians. I'd love to know whether or not this is true.
