Kerry, the "Slippery Used Car Salesman"? (Vanity)
Me | October 1, 2004 | NH Liberty

Many are saying that "Kerry won on style, but Bush won on substance," which was the thought that was going through my mind throughout the debate -- that is, if the “winner on style” is the droning, dishonest, Slippery-Used-Car-Salesman-type the Democrats are so fond of putting forth as candidates.

Bush could have hammered Kerry harder on many things last night, but he did not. However, he was clear and concise with his responses, as usual, but they were too brief in comparison to Kerry’s, which might have given the impression to Undecideds that he is not as informed about the issues, even though it is *Bush* who actually lives and breathes the issues on a daily basis. Bush is a typical decisive conservative, who loathes getting bogged-down in non-essentials when making important points. For the sake of the public “debate” spectacle, however, I was hoping that he would have provided his usual concise, incisive responses, and then use any leftover time to inform the public about Kerry’s record in order to put him on the defensive, but he rarely did. (That frustrated me to no end.)

The best way to describe Kerry in the debate last night is that he seemed like the slippery Used Car Salesman, who sidles-up to the side of potential buyers and schmoozes and double-talks his “victims” for too long. Before long, people yearn for the moment that this opportunist would just stop talking and go away.

What did you think?

P.S. -- no offense to honest Used Car Salesmen ;+)

For all the talking he did last night, he never said anything that he will not change later.

My reaction was exactly the same, especially after Kerry said that his approach to coalition building would be to ask countries "What's it going to take to get you to join us?" What then, he has to go to the back office to discuss it with his manager (Kofi Annan, perhaps)?

All I got from Kerry was a bunch of "I Cans". I can do this better, I can do that better, I can outdo God, etc.

The man is a "Can Can" dancer. Since he is the Frenchurian candidate, this title fits.

Yep. And it is so frustrating that he never gets challeged for specifics.

Bottom line, for much of America, it is a dog and pony show, and appearances count for a lot more than substance. Kerry smoked George last night; I could barely stand to listen to W repeat the exact same mantra for the third time in a row - it was dreadful. I couldn't watch after an hour, so I didn't see the end of the debate.

I would have smoked Kerry on his U.N. dependence, thrown out a corruption charge at the U.N., and mentioned that diplomacy is not kissing France's butt but being able to lead, while mentioning that America is the last best hope for liberty and peace on the planet. W missed on many counts, but it wasn't all negative. Kerry did a good job even though it was "acting" all the way. Americans fall for a good "actor" even if he is a moral midget. That got BJ Clinton into office.

I was very frustrated as a republican. I think even though JFK is a nitwit, that he was able to portray himself as a more calm, intelligent, and focused person than Bush. It's not the end of the world, and the vacuous libtards needed some positive news after weeks of distress, and this might give them a little bump.

I do not think it will affect the election much, but W better get some coaching before the next debate. He lost, plain and simple. He needs to practice his debating skills. My grade: Kerry - B plus, W - C minus.

Thanks NH liberty, I think GW did just fine last night, I had to watch it twice and could not get through on the support George Bush phone line on Cspan, I gave up at 2 am. Kerry was irrational at best, now that the dust has settled ask youself:

how is kerry going to create two more divisions in the Army?

if kerry would have went into iraq with several hundred thousand troops, how can we be over extended at 100k by his logic?

broad coalition good in iraq, but bad in North Korea?

if we still have troops in Bosnia 9 years later, and we are now reallocating troops in Germany and Korea after half a century +, is it rational thinking that we will be completely out of Iraq under a Kerry presidency?

If Kerry is on record in 1997 saying we should unilaterally, pre emptively take out saddam, now that he got his wish, why is he upset?

All I have to say is that GW said the military will continue to be all voluntary under his leadership, Rengal (D) wants a draft reinstated.

But it was valuable in that we learned new stuff about Kerry that we can use against him. Such as giving nuclear fuel to the Iranians! Such as cancelling yet another weapons system (bunker buster bomb).

As for the car salesman, that's exactly what I thought last night.
Here's how..Young kid with more money than brains walks into the dealership to buy a car. Kerry would try to sell the kid a really souped-up muscle car, telling the kid how the chicks will dig him in that babe magnet.

Bush would talk the kid out of buying a muscle car, saying that you'll kill yourself in that car, buy something else instead.

Nice analogy! It wasn't all bad, and it really won't matter much, but it turned out to be a letdown for me, I guess. Have a great weekend!

Yeah, guinnessboy...Bush should go out there and pound them on the stump -- and maybe buy a few ads on MTV! -- by saying, "We will NOT let the Democrats re-instate the draft in this country!"
