How important is this Election? Vanity

Posted on 10/01/2004 10:52:10 PM PDT by Sparky760

I have heard many times this years election called the most important in our lifetime. Does it really matter who is in office, which man, which party? I grew up in the age of Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. A time when the world was also a scary place. In grammer school we would have drills where we prepared for a nuclear attack. In retrospect it seems kind of funny since putting our head between our knees we might as well have been kissing our ass goodbye if it were a real attack. Although I didn't agree with Kennedy or Johnson on most political issues they portrayed a strong America. A world power that wasn't going to take any crap from anyone, including our greatest rival of the time, the USSR.

The Vietnam war divided the nation in many ways but having lived through that time I reject the comparisons being made today with Iraq. It was a different war for a different reason in a different time. We fumbled through the Ford presidency and limped into the dove presidency of Jimmy Carter. By the time his term was finished the United States was a country devoid of pride with a military weakened and disenchanted. Then came along exactly what we needed, Ronald Reagan, bringing with him strength, hope and national pride. The Nation was revived like I have never seen before in my lifetime. His presidency impacted 20 years in our economics and left a legacy that will always live on in history. Bush senior kept us strong. We know what came next and had it not been for Reagan raising up so high, Clinton would have surely brought us to new lows. After eight years of Clinton our military was lacking so much. Not just in lacking a leader who believed in them but lacking in equipment because of cuts in spending. Scavenging equipment to fix other equipment became commonplace. Foreign policy during this period was almost non existent. The Middle East was left to fester.

Bush was again just what the country needed. An honest, God fearing man with a strong character. Did I agree with all of his policies, no. I did know that the country could not afford another 4 years of Clinton's policies through Al Gore. Then came 9/11, the worst single direct attack on the United States in 2 centuries. George Bush in a mature, composed and focused way set the policy of the nation. His declaration that you are with us or against us is precisely what was needed. The clamoring for the last year trying to make Bush appear to be a war monger is absurd. He has remained focused and on target. The choices made, first Afghanistan, then Iraq were logical in every way. If you follow the logical steps that we may need to embark on you realize that Iran, Syria and Jordan could follow. But success in Iraq may avoid further conflict. By transforming Iraq into a free country with an army to protect it along with the US having a substantial military presence in that part of the world can finally bring some stability to the Middle East. This is why it is so imperative that we continue on the path we are on and not get distracted by polls and UN policy. We need a focused president who can see the big picture and not be deflected when faced with pressure. We need a man who will not waiver, will not falter and have the faith in humanity to stay the course.

Does this election matter? How important is this election? I think the answer is obvious. The United States of America needs George Bush for another four years.

The biggest difference between now and when we were growing up is that the USSR etal could be deterred while the enemy we are fighting today would happily use a nuclear weapon on the US in the US or even on US troops in their own countries, if they could get one.

After I heard Kerry last night saying he would give Iran nuclear material, even after the lessons of N Korea, I realized just how important it was.

And Jacques Fraud Kerry believes in the power, might, and fury of The United States - as long as he has the complete agreement of his global buddie club.

Do bastards like this ever read the Decleration of Independence, or the Constitution of The United States? I can't believe this fraud of a man is even in remote consideration for the office of President, let alone a near competitor.

More than that... Clinton acted in a manner as President that some could call treasonous... when he opened the door to Hughes, Loral, etc., to sell our top secret, secrets to China -- which in turn used that information in richen itself by providing equipment and knowledge for nuclear proliferation to N. Korea, Iran, Pakistan he placed us at great risk...not only that... he actually made treaties for us to dismantel our nuclear and Star Wars programs while giving money to Russia to dismantle their nucs which Russia used to proliferate new and better nucs.

We were attacked by terrorist organization al Queda multiple times from 1993 to 9/11 and he treated it as police actions then when we were attacked by blowing the Federal Building in Oklahoma City and then TWA 800 Clinton and his team pretended they were "accidents" in order to win the election of 1996.

IMO John Kerry would be more of the same old Clintonista way of doing business... he said as much last night when he said he'd stop the Nuclear BB Program, would ask permission to protect us and in past statements has said he wants the military under the UN and NATO... it was our military under US that led to the devestating Black Hawk incident.

I could go on... but, yes this is the MOST critical election of this century.

Like them or not the fact of the matter is that the Communists of the 50s,60s,and 70s were rational leaders (wrong but rational)who cared about keeping their own nations going...The Islamofacists have no such committment nor do they have any desire for one...Their concept of community is that of believers. They believe they already are entitled to the entire world and the problem is all us infidels who won't surrender...If someone is not smart enough to see this is the ONLY issue of importance in this election and perhaps in the whole of the 21st century then I would prefer they didn't vote...because they will get me and mine killed

I grew up in the same era, and while I recall being afraid of the "bomb" I always knew our nation would do all it could to keep that from happening, and if God forbid it did, we would wipe them out as well. With the democrats of today, I realize that would not happen. John Kerry wants us to disarm, gee, so did the leaders of the old USSR. Strange how he has the same views they did. (do?) Important election? I'd say. This is the life and death of our republic this time, and instead of whining about how pure a conservative Bush is, the people need to be crawling through snakes to get to the polls to vote for him.

Well said...and on a spiritual note this is an election between good and evil, much like the terrorism happening in world today. The battle has intensified and "who" is leader of the free world will determine if we remain free of terrorism.

This isn't the world of the 60's, 70's or even 80's, people were far more safe then than now. There has been a real trend to "call evil good and good evil", just as the Bible predicted would happen. Perilous times for people of faith, and very scary for our nation.

Krushchev said in 50's "We will take America without firing a shot", and they began training communist/socialist teachers to come and infiltrate our schools to teach our children against capitalism, freedom and give them a mindset to bondages of social control. It has worked, as we have an entire political party dedicated to destroying America's freedoms. At least half of our population would allow government to make all their decisions, control their healthcare, and implement programs that would make them co-dependent for life.

NOW they have a candidate, Kerry, who wants us to hand over our decisions to a global UN, who says when we can protect ourselves and when not. It is just as God predicted, and soon we will see the rise of the Political Anti-Christ who will dominate the world.

Couldn't agree more with all your posts. I just hope enough of our fellow Americans understand what is at stake.
