XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN OCT 03, 2004 14:05:38 ET XXXXX

DEBATE MYSTERY: DID KERRY HAVE CHEAT SHEET?

Section 5, pages 4-5 of the binding "Memorandum of Understanding" that was negotiated and agreed upon by both political campaigns states:

"No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium..."

So what did Dem presidential contender John Kerry take out of his jacket as he approached the stage [with his back to the auditorium's audience]?

What did Kerry place on the podium?

Video replays of the Kerry maneuver played all weekend long on the internet.

[A tight zoom of the Boston.Com feed shows Kerry pulling a mysterious "card" from his jacket. 14 seconds into video, after commerical]

A top Kerry campaign source explained to the DRUDGE REPORT late Sunday how Bush supporters were once again trying to distract.

"Kerry did not cheat," said the Kerry insider. "This is more lies from Republicans, who are hoping for a quick change of subject away from the president's performance, and the new polls."

Of course Kerry knew the questions. Lets don't be niave, google Jim Lehrer folks. If Bush would have notes he could have bumped himself out of the "hard work" rut, notes are invaluable. Furthermore after watching it I think that Bush saw him do this. The Kerry campaign requested the no note policy so Bush wouldn't have any.

If Bush saw this what could he do? Make an international incident on live TV? No he was disgusted. Notice that the usually friendly Bush did NOT shake Lehrer's hand afterward. Notice how he got off the stage quickly.

The DNC will say it was a hankerchief or a tissue. Think college cheat notes. Coded words that represent pre-memorized answers. Kerry was practiciing this slight of hand in Wisconsin. Notice how his hands tremble for the first moment at the podium.

I know he had the questions before hand. They were basically. These are the collosal mistakes Bush has made and what do you think of them.

All just speculation but it could answer Bush's demeanor.

It would have been extremely easy for Lehrer to have given Kerry the questions beforehand. Just think about it: everyone thought that only Lehrer knew what the questions were, so he would have never had to answer for anything. Lehrer -- bah. I never liked that guy.

But even so, what's the point? Is it wrong to bring a note card? I really don't know and am curious. I think most people will just shrug it off.

What part of NO NOTECARDS were you having difficulty with?

"No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Wonder what part of that John Kerry did not understand????

Well, it doesn't say anything specific about cheat sheets. What Kerry will argue is that the cheat sheets he brought in were not props or diagrams that you would show the audience, but talking points to show himself.

It all depends on what the meaning of the word is... is.

If one watches the video full screen and at a single frame at a time, one can clearly see that Kerry takes out a rectangular shaped item from his pocket, lays it out onto the left side (his left) of the podium with his left hand, then, with his right hand, lifts a pen which was already in place on the right side of the podium.

The President, without ever reaching to remove something from his person, simply walks to the podium and lifts the pen already in place on the right side of the podium.

Kerry, without question, took something out of his pocket other than a pen.

Khaosai,
I disagree with you on two points. First, I am not as convinced as you seem to be the President Bush lost (you've posted this on several threads). But that is not what this is about, which is the second point.

Kerry clearly took something, I don't know what, out of his pocket and placed it on the lectern. It's against the rules period, win, lose or draw. Americans don't like cheaters and a good portion of the public were not so sure about Kerry, even without this. Clinton is still fresh in a lot of peoples' minds.

I agree that Bush didn't and wouldn't. INDC was making the point that the playing field was not equal. Kerry had it stacked with his cheat sheets.

"Yes. If Kerry pulled out a cheat sheet, the Prez definitely noticed it as did Lehrer which would explain the Prez's attitude from the start.

It would speak to Bush's integrity, infact, if he noticed it and didn't alert people to it afterward for advantage, but instead took the hits all weekend."

Would explain that look of incredulity on the President's face.

Notes for his debate speech. Against the debate rules, but then Kerry never paid much attention to rules.

You're right. It wouldn't surprise me that the MSM turns a blind eye to this because they want to push Kerry to the presidency. Look at the Newsweek poll manipulation, for example.

The Bush campaign needs to really stay away from this issue, like they did with the forged documents, and let Drudge & PJ brigade do the dirty work. I hope Fox picks it up tomorrow.

This is DEVASTATING. This is exactly the equivalent of CBS's fraudulent documents. The content of the documents or the debate become 100% invalid if the mechanism for them is found to be forged or cheated.

This is utterly crushing stuff if the hi res proves out. This is the equivalent of evidence being obtained without a warrant being inadmissible and if fraudulent evidence is knowingly offered the court the lawyer doing it is disbarred.

No wonder he had that grin on his face when Bush was talking. It's like he knew what questions were coming, wrote down the answers, and had pre-guessed how Bush would respond to each question.
