Allegation of assault on woman in 1970s shadows Wu (Oregon, 'Rat Rapist Congressman)
The Oregonian (Portland) ^ | 10-12-04 | LAURA GUNDERSON, DAVE HOGAN and JEFF KOSSEFF

Posted on 10/12/2004 9:24:25 AM PDT by Atlas Sneezed

[In 1976]...the 21-year-old Wu was brought to the campus police annex after his ex-girlfriend said he tried to force her to have sex, according to Raoul K. Niemeyer, then a patrol commander who questioned him.

Wu had scratches on his face and neck, and his T-shirt was stretched out of shape, Niemeyer said.

Earlier, someone had interrupted a scuffle in the woman's dorm room. A Stanford professor said the woman told him the next day that Wu had angrily attacked her. An assistant dean who counseled the woman for two months said that the woman called it attempted rape and that Wu used a pillow to muffle her screams.

Wu told police that what happened was consensual. "He said, 'We just, I was with my girlfriend, and we just got a little carried away,'" Niemeyer remembered. After that, he said, Wu "clammed up."

Wu, 49, has declined repeated requests for interviews about the incident and did not respond to written questions from The Oregonian. His campaign manager said the Portland Democrat would not answer "unsubstantiated allegations."

Wu was not arrested. The woman ultimately declined criminal prosecution and did not file a formal disciplinary complaint, former Stanford officials said. But before the next school year began, Wu was "de-selected" for a job as a dormitory resident assistant, a professor who would have supervised him said.

With Wu running for his fourth term in the 1st Congressional District this year, The Oregonian investigated a recurrent rumor that he had been accused of a sexual assault during his college years....

Does he face a realistic challenge?

Hey, nevermind. I looked up this Goli Ameri lady, she seems like a real class act! And having raised $1.7 million is pretty damn impressive.

Man, wouldn't it just drive the Dems nuts for us to have the only Middle Eastern American in Congress? We're gonna have the only Eastern Indian American in Congress after this year too.

Please! Kobe is so innocent it hurts. He's guilty of hooking up with a woman of loose morals when he has a beautiful wife, but I have trouble believing that anybody who has looked at this case actually thinking he's guilty unless you actually belive that the accuser was so upset about getting raped, that she went out and partied with her friends and bragged about it, and then had sex with some other guy.

Wu's opponent got the endorsement of the big daily Oregonian, and she has an impressive page about Wu here:

http://www.wusworld.com/

He ran as a moderate, but is a fringe Deaniac nutjob. Pretty much a Kerry-type. I'll bet he was hoping for a nice position in a Kerry administration.

Some highlights from the DUmmies (BARF ALERT!):

"This seems very meaningless -He "tried" to. He was disciplined. It was 28 years ago. George Bush was still drunk and on coke at that time."

"A real "youthful indiscretion""

"Unless you get the woman to talk, you have nothing here!"

"I have met David WU, he is my congressman, he is fantastic
and to bring something like this up, smells of desperation
on the part of the trailing Goli Ameri, the Republican from Iran
which is part of the so called axis of evil."

"David Wu does a good job for us here in Oregon, I bet the gal in question has forgiven him.

"Like the line I like to spring on freepers at bars RE: Clinton: What? you never cheated on YOUR wife? - Ummm... er... stutter, silence."

"I'm pretty sure Wu has attoned for his sins by now."

"If people can vote for Arnold, whose "transgressions" were far more recent in time, why can't they vote for Wu who is not today the man he was back then. Did the GOP candidate spill his seed in violation of the Bible?"

"Arnie has never admitted what he did nor asked for forgiveness. He did not attack one woman, but many over his public career. There is a difference here."

"David WU made a mistake, and he admits it
Like i said ,we all make mistakes we are all human,(except Republicans)"

"...is punishment necessary in a case where the offender has apparently reformed? What would be the purpose of punishment at this time? There is no credible "deterrent" argument that can be made."

"To what extent did he "Try to force" her? did he have a knee in her chest while he tried to rip her panties down, or was he going "C'Mon, babe, you KNOW you wanna" for 3 hours until she threw him out? That's important. Did he physically try to force his attentions on her, or was he trying to whine his way into her pants?"

(There was one poster there who called the others on their hypocrisy.)

You can't bring up stuff like this all this time later when no charges were ever brought....

IF there were many complaints, many accusations , then and only then would a respectable media post this stuff....

but if this was a one time incident, then why is this coming up now?

granted, they do it to Republicans all the time......

I am not going to argue about this stupid idiotic Kobe stuff but you do know that he said that he now knows that what he considered "consenual" was not considered that by the female.... and, what ever the defense said before is just defense bluster...don't know if any of it is true, the DA denied it...but more telling is the fierce way the defense wanted all the interviews and investigative materials to be kept secret....hmmmmmm......well, its going to all come out now...

loose morals?...........btw , isn't adultery with strange women (more than once, Bryant's account) considered "loose" morals....

having said that , the 19 yro sounds like a lot of young people nowadays, especially girls( not mine though, thank God) ...very frivolous with affections and partying way too much...and yes, immoral IMO...judgmental that it is....

The guy is seriously impaired. I can see why he's a Deaniac, I bet he has a few outbursts of his own. I wonder if he is also part of TURAAYYYZUH's circle as well?

The issue is one of mental stability. He showed the tendancy then, and still shows it now. Nothing has ever intervened - he has never learned his lesson, so to speak, and likely is in even worse shape, given his rise to power, than he was at 21.

With respect, I think you're way off base. This is pure character assassination, and the reason why many good people avoid politics. This is no different than the DUI crap they tried on W just before the 2000 election. This case is 35 yeards old. There's never been any sense, or report of impropriety on his part since then, and the woman is not always right just because she says so..

I don't view his past behavior in a vacuum I view it along side current behavior. There is no statute of limitations for bad judgement and mental instability. Bad judgement and mental instability must be proven to have been overcome, else we must assume they are still there.

Is that really fair? They were in college..70's..free love and all that..they were in a relationship, they broke up, tried to connect somehow after, and something happened. To bring it up now is a cheap shot..there is NOTHING in the guy's history since then to indicate what you imply. He deserves the benefit of the doubt, and credit for a life of service ( though, albeit, as a Dem, misguided). again, that's why many good people will NOT go into public service...look at the confirmation processes in the Senate.

RE: "there is NOTHING in the guy's history since then to indicate what you imply."

By what standards? The guy is still a total nut job. He even LOOKS like a nutjob. That means he's pretty messed up, since most people with those sorts of problems can hide it. The guy still behaves erratically, his body language says he's out to lunch.

Goli Ameri was already a credible candidate, though Wu was favored. But now, I think that Ameri has a very real chance at winning. The suburban district isn't overwhelmingly 'Rat, and Republicans came close to winning it in 1982, 1984, 1992, 1994, and 1998.

RUN, GOLI, RUN!!!!!

You must be kidding. First, free love was not part of the 1976 scene, especially at Stanford.

Second, the police found him with scratches on his face, and he reportedly used a pillow to stifle her screams. That is not excessive amore, it is violent rape stopped by a tough gal.
