Congressman Pete Sessions'(R-TX) Streaking Stunt {from 1974} Exposed

Old school days long gone, but not forgotten: Congressman's streaking stunt exposed

DALLAS The gloves have come off in a tight election race between two Texas congressmen -- and every other article of clothing appears to be fair game as well.

Democrats are circulating old newspaper clippings of a 1974 college streaking stunt staged by hundreds of students at what was then called Southwest Texas State University.

One of the participants was an 18-year-old freshman named Pete Sessions -- who grew up to become a conservative Republican congressman.

A Sessions spokesman says the congressman's "old school days are long gone" and that he recognizes the streaking stunt was "an immature action."

But the campaign of Democrat Representative Martin Frost is holding his rival's bare body to the fire, saying he "exposed himself to children and strangers."

The two incumbents are battling each other in a new Republican-leaning district in the Dallas area. Frost, Texas' senior congressman, had his district redrawn by Republicans last year.

but I did not participate in the Naked Mile

Why not? Was running around naked at this event restricted, or against the rules?

people can be easily led around by the nose, into thinking some things are acceptable

Having lived during the streaking fad, I merely stated my observations. I didn't say it was "acceptable" behavior, I said it was mindless. That hardly sounds like approval. I'm sorry you cannot discern the difference. Perhaps it is you who should calm down.

To be honest, I can't recall why I didn't run in the Naked Mile. I may have missed the start or, more plausibly, was too drunk to run (this was the last day of exams). My girlfriend ran in it, as did several of my housemates. I only witnessed a couple of Naked Miles during my time at U of M.

U of M doesn't punish anyone for running in the Mile. As I mentioned, U of M police provide crowd-control duties.

Interesting, many here say it was perfectly acceptable, and mainstream, yet no one here will admit to running around in public, butt naked.

LOL! OK, but many here have implied that it was acceptable, and even one said it was "main stream". Read the thread.

Nice hysterics.
If your generation had taken hold of your freaks during the 1960s and 1970s, my generation wouldn't have such a poor view of you Boomers.

The hilarious part is that he condemned the "wardrobe malfunction" during the Superbowl. Guess he has to condemn himself now...

How low and far back do you have to go to find some dirt?
30 years ago streaking was the fad of the moment. I remember I was about that same age when I streaked and I streaked an all girls college. Of course no one has pictures of that.
Much to do all about nothing.

Tell me you ever do anything when you were young and foolish?

This isn't so much about misbehaving when one is young and foolish. It's about an "October surprise" from Martin Frost, who aims to keep his House seat by hook or crook. Complacent Republicans had better beware: this seat is in real danger of going Democrat. Frost can say he was running for the House for his first term just two years after his opponent was "streaking."

I used to drive through Hahira, Georgia regularly.

Always made me think of their most famous native Son, Ray Stevens.
