If he's 16, she should go to jail.My father's parents got married when he was 28 and she was 16 and a high school graduate. To treat 16 and 17-year-olds as "children" for statutory rape purposes makes no sense to me.
Of course there is a double standard regarding teenage boys versus teeneage girls, and there will be until teenage boys can get pregnant. I also believe that a relationship with any adult would be far more emotionally danaging for a teenage girl than a teenage boy.
Sexual relations between teachers and students are inapropriate; any teacher who does this should be fired and suspended from teaching for a number of years. I don't think these relationships are necessarily criminal; that depends on the law, which as I said should set the age at 16 not 18.

When you are in HS, that is a perfect 10. When you are a 16 year-old boy, a hole in a chainlink fence is a perfect 10....

The point I was making was about the ability of high school boys to fabricate some outstanding whoppers about their sexual exploits. Female teachers are often the object of the tales.
Before I went to the administration I would have spent a little time looking and listening.
A young teacher's career is now destroyed no matter what an investigation may prove. Once accused always guilty.

Ahhh.... I think you've done the job sufficiently.
"I was simply pointing out that YOU are no longer in the 9th grade - 12th grade."
10-4. Sorry my posts haven't met or exceeded your "maturity" standard.
"If I were the mother of this teenage boy, I'd be pretty ticked off at your cavilier attitude toward this whole situation."
How much more clear can I make it? It's W-R-O-N-G for this teacher to have done what she did. I, however, can relate to the position in life a Sr. High student can find himself. That's not cavalier. That's reality.
"BTW...."wink wink" if this were a HOT male teacher and a sixteen year old girl, you and I wouldn't even be having this conversation....would we?"
Definitely not. I have never experience unbridled urges of passion toward a HOT male teacher. Of course, if we were having the conversation, I'd probably still have to write it 3 times in all caps that it was WRONG!

I'm going to get flamed for this, but a disproportionate number of the teachers I know are "easy," hot or not. I had a pedagouge (million dollar word alert!) ex-girlfriend who spread like Philly on a bagel. A walkin' petri dish for sure.

Where do atheist get their moral compass?

"Where do atheist get their moral compass?"
Huh? I can't speak for anyone but myself. I got my moral compass from my parents, two of the most moral people I've ever met. They taught me right from wrong and how to tell the difference in new situations.
That's my moral compass. I got my other compass in the Boy Scouts.

No need to apologize....I'm the mom of a twelve year old boy, so I can recognize a lack of maturity in a person when I see it....and I definately see it in you.

"Apparently you think it's OK for a female teacher to have sex with a male student. I find that very strange. Now let's hear about your attitude about a male teacher and a female student. Please explain if the two attitudes are different."
Like it or not there is a double standard. There is a reason for this. Boys and girls are not the same! For one thing girls can get pregnant. Boys can't.
If that were the only reason, it would be enough to explain the double standard but the attitude of boys that age towards sex are also clearly different from girls. Boys can, and do, have sex with absolutely no emotional attachment what so ever. With girls, this is usually not the case.
To sum up, male teachers having consensual sex with female students can cause both emotional and physical harm, (if she gets pregnant), to an underage female. Conversely, little or no harm is likely if a female teacher has consensual sex with an under age boy.
Because of these differences, there is a double standard. Most people understand this intuitively. Only feminists and others who like to pretend males and females are the same would argue otherwise.
