Los Angeles, Oct. 18 (CWNews.com) - A consultant to the Vatican has said Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry has incurred the penalty of excommunication from the Catholic Church.

ALSO, DRUDGE HAS UP THE EDWARDS HAIR VIDEO!!!!
I KID YOU NOT.
Uh, wouldn't there be something more definitive from the Vatican if Kerry has been excommunicated?
his excommunication would be an October surprise huh?
I really hope it does!~~
Oh that hair do thing is so funny.
I'm a devout Episcopalian but I'm loving the Catholics more every day! This is hilarious.
Probably not. It will have the same impact on the religious right voting against him as it will for those on the left that despise the religious right. It will be a wash if true.
Any pics of the hair for the popup averse?
"Consequently, if a Catholic publicly and obstinately supports the civil right to abortion, knowing that the Church teaches officially against that legislation, he or she commits that heresy envisioned by Can. 751 of the Code. Provided that the presumptions of knowledge of the law and penalty and imputability are not rebutted in the external forum, one is automatically excommunicated according to Can. 1364, Sec. 1."

I'm waiting to hear from the Cardinal in Boston. I hope this is true.
I'm really lame, and new. :-(
It's a Rove dirty trick.
He got to the Pope.
Probably promised to get pardons for some priests or something.
:-)
Same thing that happens if a non Catholic walks into a Church and takes communion. Obviously the priest will have no idea that this person is a non-Catholic, but since the supplicant is not in a state of communion or grace, then the benificial act of taking communion is voided.
Kerry must be one of those "Dark Clouds" the Pope was talking about.
Thanks a bunch for the welcome, Kryptonite. You guys are great.
Now if Putin can arrange Kerry's excommunication from the Communist Party.

Uh, yeah. But, there's not going to be, at least until after November 2.
However, the NY Times and Democrats have, in my opinion, really ticked off some folks in the Magisterium of the Church.
Basically, the thing with Archbishop Chaput in Denver was a setup, and then the reported deliberately distorted the views of the Archbishop.
The Church does not take revenge, but moving quickly on this issue will lessen the pressure on the Archdiocese of Denver.
Kerry's Bishop (Sean O'Malley) and Archbishop Chaput are both Capuchins.
If Kerry really was a Catholic, he could have donated money or helped the Archdiocese of Boston find a way to keep the churches open that were closed. But he didn't lift a finger to help what he claims is his church.
He probably will be excommunicated, though this has to go through all the proper channels.
If Kerry is elected President, it might 6 months after the inauguration before he is excommunicated. And perhaps longer.
Define your terms: Who's a non-Catholic? Kerry? In which case he's just lying (again); or, Matt Drudge?
Sayeth the old editor, recomembering Freshman English 101.
There are several forms of excommunication in the Catholic Church and the details are complicated. I believe the most basic form of excommunication is "ipso facto" excommunication, where the offender is automatically excommuncated 'by the fact itself' (of the sin). (in Kerry's case supporting abortion as a Catholic politician would be the sin that incurrs this excommunication). All it really means is that the person removes himself from Christ's Community because he obstinately remains in sin and refuses to repent.
I believe that the form of excommunication that the article refers to is also known as 'latæ sententiæ', which means that no formal decree from the Pope or a bishop is issued, but the excommunication is just as legitimate as the formally declared kind.
So essentially what the article means, (as best I can determine), is that this canon lawyer asked an official at the Vatican if John Kerry's position on abortion removes him from the communion of the Church, and the reply from the official was in the affirmative.
If the Catholic Church really does this, it will elect Kerry as president. Mark my words. But it won't happen. This is just spam. When was the last time anybody was excommunicated?
Sorry, I was being sloppy. Drudge is Jewish.
Good, I must have sent him 10 emails yesterday about the articles.
