Has Michael Dukakis Broken Campaign Finance Laws With his Donations to Kerry?
Open Secrets ^ | October 25, 2004

Posted on 10/24/2004 10:51:46 PM PDT by RWR8189

Don't ask why I was looking at who Michael Dukakis has donated to in this election cycle, but I did.

I thought it was rather interesting while looking at his donations that I noticed he has given $3000 to the Kerry campaign throughout this election cycle.

The Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (BCRA) also referred to as the "McCain-Feingold Bill" limits an individuals contribution to a federal candidate at $2000 per election cycle.

Unless I am missing something or there was an error with this website, it seems that Mr. Dukakis has broken federal law through his donations to the Kerry campaign.

I think as couples you can donate up to $2000 each, so a combined limit of $4,000.

Could the 2003 donations be to Kerry's Senate campaign fund and not his presidential campaign?

I don't see Mrs. Duffas's name on the check. She has to give it herself.

I'm not sure, but I think the $2000 limit restarts when a candidate moves from the primaries and becomes the party nominee. Or somehting like that.

Check the FEC website.

http://www.fec.gov/pages/brochures/citizens.shtml#how_much

It's $2k during the primaries and $2k during the regular election cycle.

With me and Dukakis being of the same ethnicity, it is astounding that the POS could not see the disgusting troubles with a socialist society like there is in Greece, and yet him and his disgusting lib friends try as hard as they can to turn us into one.

No, Northeastern is a real university with many excellent programs. It's ranked #120 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.

Clinton aside, this just made me think about how charismatic most Democratic Presidential candidates have been of late: Mondale, Dukakis, Gore...Kerry.

Hey, at least it's tied with the University of Kentucky, Oklahoma University, and Washington State University, among others.

Regardless it was still the primaries until July when Kerry accepted the nomination.

You can give your general election $2k during the primaries -- the candidate just can't spend it until the general election.

I thought you couldn't even give another $2000 if the candidate takes federal funds in the general?

Sorry, it is not possible for Dukakis to break federal, state or local laws . . . . . . . he's a Democrat.

Laws are only made for Republicans to follow.

Hmmm .... good point. I've heard the 2k/2k thing about lots of other federal candidates but nothing about prez.
