Troops encounter unknown chemical items

As the military advances closer to Baghdad, signs of Iraqichemical preparedness are multiplying, although there is still no conclusive evidence Saddam Hussein's regime possesses weapons of mass destruction.

On Friday, troops at a training facility in the westernIraqi desert came across a bottle labeled "tabun" a nerve gas and chemical weapon Iraq is banned from possessing.

Closer to Baghdad, troops at Iraq's largest militaryindustrial complex found nerve agent antidotes, documents describing chemical warfare and a white powder that appeared to be used for explosives.

U.N. weapons inspectors went repeatedly to the vast al QaQaa complex most recently on March 8 but found nothing during spot visits to some of the 1,100 buildings at the site 25 miles south of Baghdad.

Col. John Peabody, engineer brigade commander of the 3rdInfantry Division, said troops found thousands of 2-by-5-inch boxes, each containing three vials of white powder, together with documents written in Arabic that dealt with how to engage in chemical warfare.

Now now. We all know they moved 380 tons of ammo back into the facility after the UN left.

Then it was stolen by a carvan of Bedouin.

Mohamed El Baradei's report to the UN security council

Friday February 14, 2003

We have also continued to investigate the relocation and consumption of the high explosive HMX. As I reported earlier, Iraq has declared that 32 tonnes of the HMX previously under IAEA seal had been transferred for use in the production of industrial explosives, primarily to cement plants as a booster for explosives used in quarrying.

Iraq has provided us with additional information, including documentation on the movement and use of this material, and inspections have been conducted at locations where the material is said to have been used. However, given the nature of the use of high explosives, it may well be that the IAEA will be unable to reach a final conclusion on the end use of this material. While we have no indication that this material was used for any application other than that declared by Iraq, we have no technical method of verifying, quantitatively, the declared use of the material in explosions. We will continue to follow this issue through a review of civilian mining practices in Iraq and through interviews of key Iraqi personnel involved in former relevant research and development activities.

Hello,

Wow! This needs to be sent to the RNC, ASAP. Is it possible to determine if this info was truly "reported" by the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, or if they picked up a feed from another source?

Glad to be here, MOgirl

I really miss Lexis-Nexis. Great find, but the story was out of the box yesterday, and the NYT is still reporting on Monday morning's news. Gotta love the MSM.

Why would America leave the security of it's country up to the United Nations?
All members in Congress and the Senate are killing Americans by supporting the United Nations.

TREASON

Hmm... I guess the New York Slimes doesn't have access to Lexis-Nexis... </sarcasm>

This just proves how little investigative journalism took place to "break" this story a week before the election. Prince Charles, how long did it take you to dig up this gem?

I found this gem with a Lexis-Nexis search.

I'm guessing that the NYTimes has Lexis-Nexis capability and overlapping layers of accountability.

Oh well. Chalk up another one for the pajamahadeen.
