Do ya think that perhaps President Bush was a little premature in reporting what he saw when he looked into Putin's soul? I have a feeling the warmth he felt was piped in from a great distance way down BELOW.

"I'd like to know, how would we know this now and not back then?"

If this is true, we probably DID know it back then. But for political and diplomatic reasons, it wasn't brought to the public's attention.

Sad but most likely true.

The Financial Times story has this at the end:

Mr Shaw, who heads the Pentagon’s international armament and technology trade directorate, has not provided evidence for his claims and the Pentagon distanced itself from his remarks.

“I am unaware of any particular information on that point,” said Larry Di Rita, Pentagon spokesman. The issue has dominated the presidential campaign since the International Atomic Energy Agency raised it at the UN Security Council on Monday. The Iraqi government says the explosives disappeared during looting after US forces seized Baghdad. But Colonel Dave Perkins, who commanded the first troops into al-Qaqaa, yesterday said it was “highly improbable” someone could have removed the munitions after US forces had taken control of the area.

The US has in the past raised concerns about Russian activities in Iraq before the invasion. During the war, Mr Bush called Vladimir Putin, Russian president, to voice concerns that Russian companies at least one state-owned had provided Iraq with anti-tank guided missiles, satellite jamming devices and night-vision goggles. Russia denied the charges and promised an investigation.

Maybe Russia wanted to know where this stuff was. They have a terrorist problem also. This is just so major. Kerry is going to look like the idiot he is.

This is THE BIGGEST STORY of the past year if it's true. A security council member who inexplicably opposed the invasion ... spiriting away Iraq's arsenal for them!!!!

This proves that John Kerry jumped the gun. He had a pre-mature ejaculation of the facts. Kerry is nothing more than a jerk-off shooting off his wad to get elected. He is the ultimate democrat whore who will say anything to get elected. He makes me sick.

FR, you just don't freaking get it!!!
Rove, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft and Cheney traveled back in time using a Halliburton-built time machine. They dressed up as Russians and moved the explosives!!

We act like friendly countries, but at the street level, where it counts, Russia spies on us as aggressively as they did during the Cold War. They do not regard us as friends, I am afraid.

With few exceptions, nations don't really have "friends". Only "common interests". The most notable exception, probably, is the "special relationship" between the US and the UK.

Russia, in particular, has never considered another country its "friend". Nor will they ever. Their history has been disrupted by too many invasions to be otherwise.

But so long as we have "common interests", the Russians will cooperate.
