In less than a week, Iraq could be John Kerry's war. If the Democrats win on Nov. 2, the president-elect must immediately focus on what a U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq would mean for the Middle East and for the United States.
Until then Kerry will have had little time, or incentive, to conceive of failure in Iraq as anything other than a vote-attracting cudgel to swing at George W. Bush. If Kerry and his team have done much deep thinking on Iraq -- particularly on a comprehensive strategy that takes into account the possibility of U.S. failure there -- that thinking has not emerged in their campaign prescriptions.
Like Wagner's music, the absence of clear commitments at this stage may not be as bad -- or in this case as damaging -- as it sounds. The Democratic challenger is not handcuffed to specific actions in Iraq as he is on health care or on naming Supreme Court justices. Kerry has room to jettison implausible campaign promises as Iraqi and international realities assert themselves.
But he must quickly fill the policy vacuum that he will then have created. He and Bush must immediately engage in a transition that allows Kerry to deal with Iraq and the struggle against Islamist terrorist networks. And Kerry -- a process guy in the jargon of Washington -- must above all keep his eye on context in the time of transition.

I can't believe people are actually talking about FAILING in Iraq. We are winning and once we get the elected gov't in place and secured, then we will have WON and can leave (for the most part).
Then ... we lose

If Kerry wins, the nation will look back on the role of newspapers like the Washington Post in bringing him to power and they will be publically tried and hanged for treason.
If Kerry wins, coming soon to your neighborhood suicide bombings. Youngsters be ready for the draft because that will be the only way that Kerry will have any kind of military since most of those that serve now will not re-enlist. So all of you youngsters that don't want to be drafted, think about it. Remember, Democrats have drafted before and they will do it again.....Be prepared for more civilians to die here. Remember the only time democrats have shown any force with no complaints nor protest has been against our own citizens, WACO.
If, (God forbid) it becomes sKerry's war, we are obligated to say the same things about him, that he has been saying about our current President.
Compelling graphics that say everything about Kerry. He is geometrically worse than Carter. Like a category 5 hurricane compared to a category 4. Carter thought being reasonable would triumph over psychotic leaders. and left a legacy of disaster. But at least he didn't dare to negotiate with enemies while he served in our armed forces. At least he had the decency to wait until he was president to capitulate to our enemies.
If Kerry is sworn in on 10.20/05, this country WILL get hit within weeks. Kerry is a coward, and the bad guys know it. I'm thinking of buying Au and burying it in a root cellar. BTW, I just acquired another Glock and a Sig, and about 4,000 rounds of ammo. Guys, let's get prepared. sKerry is the Republic's nightmare of freedom as we know it. We WILL BE HIT again by the terrorists if sKerry is sworn in. Guar-an-tee-it! 9-11 will look like child's play.
If Kerry we wins we Somalia-style cut and run out of Iraq emboldening the terrorists, or all those MTV Rock the Vote retards will start getting "real" draft notices because the 75% pro-bush military will not re-enlist under him given his past of using military as a political tool only. So I hope the Jr. M. Moore and Tim Robbins teens do not feel to sold-out when Kerry administration sends them their draft notices. Kerry should pray with the rest of us that he loses.
Actually, this is one of the few questions kerry has answered.
What he said is that Bush has screwed up so badly in Iraq that any future failure will be Bush's fault, not kerry's.
And if the terrorists step up their massacres around the world and in the U.S. in response to kerry's wimpish non-responses, that will be Bush's fault too. After all, if not for Bush they wouldn't be angry at us, would they?
The Democrats are very good at the blame game. Herbert Hoover was beaten rhetorically with a large stick for at least 60 years. Never mind that the country came out of the depression under FDR and then plunged back into it even further. Naturally that was Hoover's fault too.
I can see the anti-recruitment posters now: "Do you want to be the last one to die for a mistake as president?" "Kerry: He's got your back (at least to shove the knife of blame in deeper!)"
What will be even more amusing is that many families who currently support the military or have enlistees serving will feel perfectly free to withhold their children from the draft. I know my kid will NEVER serve if Kerry is elected - no matter how dire the need. Let the Left Coast and Right Coast fight their own battles, since the first one didn't wise them up. I can protect my own.
After all, it was OK for the Left to shirk in 'Nam, and after, wasn't it? ;-)
