I agree with that, although the Chinese economy in 30 years may be rather formidable, possibly equivalent to what ours is today.

I'm not disagreeing with your geopolitical concerns, but wanted to put the amount of gas into perspective for Freepers who aren't quite as familiar with energy matters as I am.

India & Japan don't have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and the veto that comes with it.

Since China decided to abandon communism and become fascist capitalists, their economy has been booming. There's not much we can do about that, and maybe we shouldn't even try. In all likelihood, they'll eventually become a democracy.

That doesn't change the fact that they are a competitor and have the advantage of cheap labor. It's still going to be a dangerous time between now and the time they become a responsible democracy that we have to worry about.

So yes, it's worse that they're getting into bed with a member of the Axis of Evil.

With MFN status, the Chinese have no incentive to become more democratic then they are now.

True, but no communist or fascist country has survived the development of a middle class. It just doesn't work.

China has a growing middle class.

At a huge cost. But *We Will Win*.

Nobody will win, but somebody is going to lose worse. After that nobody will dare taunt us again for centuries.
