A part-time college instructor has apologized for kicking a student because he was wearing a Republican shirt. Fort Lewis College student Mark O'Donnell said he was showing people his College Republicans sweat shirt, which said "Work for us now ... or work for us later," when Maria Spero kicked him in the leg at an off-campus restaurant.

You guys better do something about this kind of nonsense before kids decide they'd rather be electricians, carpenters or plumbers rather than go to college/LOL.

ROFL... You came to the right place!!! I teach at a technical campus. We teach electronics, aviation mechanics, computer maintenance, machining, welding, HVAC and my drafting classes. We've got a major conservative bunch of faculty. Our students report that they feel much more respected at our campus than they do at the liberal campus where they take their academic classes. It's a good thing for them to learn IMO.

Politics are discussed often on our campus. Several instructors are retired military. I have seen that our conservatism and requirements of decent behavior have given some students clarity in their own political thoughts. It's amazing how just being honorable and speaking the truth can impact the young minds. Too bad so many students haven't received that through public school and from parents.

File a police complaint and press charges. Give this idiot, a poor-excuse-for-an-intelligent-person, a record of having been charged and/or convicted of a violent crime.

Why stop at anything less? An apology doesn't cut it. Relish the university's indignant response when you press charges.

More kids should attend schools such as yours. They'd probably be a lot happier and a lot more productive in the long run. I really feel sorry for the kids who have to put up with the PC nonsense that gets fed to them in many high schools and so-called "liberal arts" colleges today.

Done. letter body follows:

Thanks to you and your hate-filled reaction to political commentary, I can cross one more college off the list for my sons. I know of many, many more who are doing likewise.

As enrollments dwindle, more and more instructors will be let go. And I guess you will have to be working for that student later, after all.

What goes around, etc. Time to spruce up that resume.

Using the codename "La Condora Rosa", she led a coup in the mountanous regions of El Salvador, establishing the short-lived republic of Montedorada. The country was founded on a mixture of Marxist egalitarianism and the writings of Ann Landers. Montedorada unexpectedly came to an end when the ruling junta mistook a scout troop for an opposing army and fled the tiny mountaintop region.

Oh, BTW this is satire.

I don't think it matters, I'm just pointing out that it'd be harder to fire a professor in (previously) good standing than it would be to fire a TA.

Hypothetically, if Larry Sabato at UVA were to do what the instructor in the article did, do you think he'd be fired? Most likely, a demand for an apology would be the most that'd come out of it. Or, to take an actual example, what about Professor Nicholas "Mogadishu" DeGenova over at Columbia? Last I heard, he was still around, despite some calls for him to be fired.

Again, reverse the positions. Can you imagine the outcry had a Republican teacher (I know, I know) kicked a student with a scumbag dem shirt. It'd be on the front page of the NYT! The guy would never teach again!! Disgraceful!!

So have the parents filed Criminal Hate Assault charges against the "Teacher"?

Has the restaurant owner filed criminal charges against her for attacking one of his patron?

Has the whatever college initiated a conduct hearing and suspended the "teacher" for assaulting a student? The parents and the restaurant owner are likely to file charges but the college I doubt it will take any action at all -- claiming that it did not happen on college grounds so they don't have a dog in this fight is the most likely outcome.

I've been teaching here for 4 years now. Before that I worked in industry and didn't think much about college age kids. I have learned a lot. I didn't know if I'd be able to get along with the kids well or not when I began this job but I have raised to great daughters so I figured I'd try it.

I have to say that my students are great. I love these kids and really enjoy being around them. Sadly, I have found it easy to understand why so many young liberal arts college students are so easily influenced by PC left-wing fringe instructors. These kids love having interaction with adults who will listen and talk to them. They soak up everything like a sponge. They are at the age when parents are still accustomed to talking to them as children and even the students who have great parents often don't feel they have "adult" conversations with their parents.
They've just come out of high school where PC rules don't really allow an exchange of political and social ideas. To the students, it is a treat to be brought into discussions by an adult about "real" issues in the world.

Of course a lot of what I'm saying about this is generalized but I've found it rewarding. I was surprised at this. I really like most of these kids. They are mostly really good folks and nice to talk with. LOL

All I ask is tha the instructor be given the same treatment as if he had assaulted a person who was black, latino, gay, or muslim.
