Japan government confirms body is Japanese hostage

30 minutes ago Top Stories - AFP

TOKYO (AFP) - The Japanese government has confirmed that a head and body found in Baghdad are the remains of Japanese hostage Shosei Koda, the foreign minister said.

Koda, 24, was threatened with beheading by Islamic militants in a video released on the Internet late Tuesday if Japan did not withdraw its troops from Iraq (news - web sites) within 48 hours. Japan had refused the demand.

"Unfortunately we have confirmed that the body is that of Shosei Koda," Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura told a news conference.

"We deeply regret that he has become a victim of terrorism," Machimura said. "We express our deep condolences to his family."

The decapitated body was found near Haifa Street in a notorious area in the centre of the capital on Saturday, said colonel Adnan Abdul Rahman, a spokesman for the Iraqi interior ministry.

Iraqi officials said the head and body was found wrapped in a US flag. The hands and feet of the corpse had been tied and there were two bullet wounds, a police officer said.

I hope that Japan sends ups the ante by sending 10000 troops to hunt down the vermin who did this.

Cold as it sounds, if the followers of the Peace Loving Religion of Islam is going to continue to behead humans, they could at least behead reporters or trial attorneys or...
nah too much to ask for, I say kill them before they kill us (the followers of the Peace Loving Religion of Islam that is)

Did you forget? Japan was just bribed to be there. They are a just a crappy little island. There is no real coalition or support. They probably deserve to have their innocent citizens beheaded anyway...

(THANK YOU JAPAN AND PRAYERS GO OUT)

I doubt that Japan will run the way that Spain and the Philippines did.

No... I don't think it's a good idea for a people already in US cross-hairs to offend the people of Japan that way....

My prayers are with this man, the salvation of his soul, and consolation for his family and friends.

Japan will likely realize the importance of continuing their support for this struggle against the forces of evil.

I wish all of the countrys that have had a citizen beheaded would secretly agree to send in 20-30,000 troops and have a huge surprise raid and just blast the hell out of every building in the triangle that they thing one of these animals will be in.

I think that is the only way they will get the message, it has to be a massive attack, preferably like I said with troops that have a reason for vengence.

These idiots are playing with fire. The more they target coalition partners, the more involved and committed they'll become. These other nations are not bound to the same codes of conduct and restraints as our troops. They'll need all the help their diety can muster if they fall into the hands of these allies.

I have nothing but compassion for this man and his family but the Japanese beheaded more than one American GI during WWII.

They know the technique and they had sharper blades.

Venturing a guess here, but that Japaneese man must have been brave going to his death as there has been no mention of his beheading video or the prolonged begging for his life or for Japan to withdrawl any workers/volunteers from Iraq.

Shosei Koda was shown in a video last Tuesday released by the terrorists. In it he spoke in English and Japanese asking for Japan to withraw its troops from Iraq. The Japanese troops are in Iraq in a non-combat role.
