Since 5 of the last 9 Presidents have been Governors, I figured it would be interesting to discuss the current crop of Republican Governors....and which ones you all think may be ready, willing or able to step up in 2008.
I included Schwarzenegger, so I guess we would also need to discuss a change to the Constitution as well.
So, with out further ado, here they are.
Governor Bob Riley, ALABAMA
Governor Frank H. Murkowski, ALASKA
Governor Mike Huckabee, ARKANSAS
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, CALIFORNIA
Governor Bill Owens, COLORADO
Governor M. Jodi Rell, CONNECTICUT
Governor Jeb Bush, FLORIDA
Governor Sonny Perdue, GEORGIA
Governor Linda Lingle, HAWAII
Governor Dirk Kempthorne, IDAHO
Governor Ernie Fletcher, KENTUCKY
Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., MARYLAND
Governor Mitt Romney, MASSACHUSETTS
Governor Tim Pawlenty, MINNESOTA
Governor Haley Barbour, MISSISSIPPI
Governor Judy Martz, MONTANA
Governor Mike Johanns, NEBRASKA
Governor Kenny C. Guinn, NEVADA
Governor Craig Benson, NEW HAMPSHIRE
Governor George E. Pataki, NEW YORK
Governor John Hoeven, NORTH DAKOTA
Governor Bob Taft, OHIO
Governor Donald L. Carcieri, RHODE ISLAND
Governor Mark Sanford, SOUTH CAROLINA
Governor Mike Rounds, SOUTH DAKOTA
Governor Rick Perry, TEXAS
Governor Olene Walker, UTAH
Governor James Douglas, VERMONT
Arnold, NOT a possibility, just wouldn't be legal...
Gotta go with Owens.
NOT BOB SHAFT!!!!! No freakin way!
Owens/Watts.
I like Owens, and also Pawlenty.
Haley Barbour BUMP!
I don't think Ah-nold is eligible. Anyone know for sure?
Jeb. (Wouldn't THAT pi$s off the bad guys?)
Sanford's not bad, either.
I like Owens, but I'm worried that his family problems will hurt in '08. I'd probably prefer Mitt Romney, assuming he were to pick a V.P. candidate from the south.
Personal preferences for the V.P. slot with Romney? Mitch McConnell, Bill Frist, Elizabeth Dole or Fred Thompson
Haley Barbour intrigues me. Like Dubya in 2000, he'd be two years into his second term as governor in 2008.
Owens hasthe best shot... Maybe Pataki... but Owens is one of the few ive actually heard of from out here in the East...
Boy the pickings look pretty slim. A lot of good men but not to many who look like they would be strong Presidential contenders. Maybe Mitt Romney or Bob Ehrlich.
Mark Sanford, with Rick Santorum as VP.
Jeb Bush.
Marc Racicot, the former governor of Montana would be my choice.
I like Racicot.
Actually Craig Benson just lost in New Hampshire.
