The last word on Bush’s bulge (strap holding his bulletproof vest in place)

The last word on Bush’s bulge

Call off the conspiracy freaks. Now it can be told: That mysterious bulge on President Bush’s back during the first presidential debate was not an electronic device feeding him answers, but a strap holding his bulletproof vest in place.

Speculation about the bulge on the Internet only increased since Georges de Paris, the Washington tailor who makes Bush’s suits, told The Hill last month that it was nothing more than a pucker on the back of Bush’s coat caused when he crossed his arms.

But sources in the Secret Service told The Hill that Bush was wearing a bulletproof vest, as he does most of the time when appearing in public. The president’s handlers did not want to admit as much during the campaign, for fear of disclosing information related to his personal security while he was on the campaign trail.

The suspicion that Bush was, indeed, wearing something under his coat was given further credence by Dr. Robert M. Nelson, a senior research scientist for NASA and Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and an international authority on image analysis, who conducted tests while working at home on his own computers.

“I am willing to stake my scientific reputation to the statement that Bush was wearing something under his jacket during the debate,” Nelson told Salon.com. “This is not about a bad suit. And there’s no way the bulge can be described as a wrinkled shirt.”

From the beginning this has shown the diminished mental capacity of the baboons masquerading as elite thinkers on the left.

Modern electronics have been so miniaturized, he could have worn 20 receivers and one would not have seen them.

Even assuming that the secret service has fallen way behind and had to use a device that big, why would they put it in the back instead of at the waist?

The way the dims have jumped on this issue betrays a level of incompetence bordering on mental illness and frankly may also explain why they continue to be clueless about the reason for their sound defeat.

It was obvious and quickly, if discretly pointed out, sometimes the "intelligence of the internet" drops to the kindergarden level

Are there different thicknesses/strengths of bullet-proof vests for different purposes? The only bullet-proof vests I've ever recognized are the ones worn by highway patrol troopers in uniform, and they are so bulky that even my untrained eye can spot them a long way off.

In the world of BULGE:

I think that I'd RATHER get the final difinitive on what exactly that BULGE was on The Silky Pony's upper LIP. Now THAT'S a BULGE that lends cause to insight massive, confused, stunned, media spot-lighting FREAK-OUT.

We NEVER got a CLEAR, OFFICIAL RESPONSE/DIAGNOSIS on that THANG.

THAT'S the bulge that caught MY attention. Now don't be in denial and say that it didn't catch yours.

And you can't tell me that it was a lip-plumping, beautifying, lip gloss enhancing, collagen injection gone bad. He would have SUED if it was.

its the side strap and the upper shoulder peice poking up. look at a peice of class 2a armor on the back and you will see it, its not the most flexible thing in the world. You can clearly see the edges of the panel on the vest, as most vests have about the same profile as a "wife beater" shirt without the shoulder straps.

“I am willing to stake my scientific reputation to the statement that Bush was wearing something under his jacket during the debate,” Nelson told Salon.com.

Mr. Nelson: Your "scientific reputation" has probably been damaged by your speaking to salon.com.

yeah from class 1 to class 5 ive seen the class 5 take an AK barrage at point blank, the coast guard uses them for boarding armor. Class 1 wont stop most handgun rounds, mainly for knives and the like. Most common is 2A which will stop most moderate handgun rounds.

Thats is exactly what it was, because I wore one for over 10 years while I was a deputy sheriff, and it made a bulge in the back. Uncomfortable things too!

Praise the Lord that we'll no longer be subjected to such VISUAL ABUSE. Can we sue HIM for agony and mental anguish?

Yes, the level of protection depends on how many layers of the fabric Kevlar are in the vest.

Some maximum-protection tactical vests such as SWAT or bomb-squad officers wear also have steel or ceramic inserts.

Any armor is a trade-off between comfort, mobility unobtrusiveness and protection.

A uniformed officer wouldn't be concerned about unobtrusiveness since a perp would be expecting him to wear a vest.

However an undercover guy or a businessman would wear one which was not so obvious but which offered less protection.

Vests are uncomfortable and ungodly hot to wear, but they're infinitely better than taking a round in the giblets.

I, although bashing The Silky Pony, would like to offer my prayers for his wife and for him that her health will improve, and her cancer be treated to erradication. It's a subject very near to my heart. I now feel bad in injecting John Edwards--I'm just punchy/silly in my late-nite fade.

Just wanted to mention that.

That's exactly what I've told everyone who has mentioned that to me! I have seen that same "bulge" every single time I've watched him board AirForce I, and many other times when he is in public and we've caught glimpses of his back. For years I've seen that bulge and when all of this conspiracy crap hit the fan after the debates, I couldn't believe more people hadn't noticed it before!
