Aussie troops shoot man in Iraq

AUSTRALIAN troops in Iraq have shot and injured a man who failed to stop at a checkpoint, it was revealed today.

The man, whose nationality is not known, did not respond to signals to stop as he drove "in an erratic manner" towards an Australian patrol in Baghdad, a defence public affairs spokesman said.

The Australian troops opened fire on the vehicle, which they felt presented a threat to the patrol, injuring one of its occupants.

"At around 6pm, Baghdad time, on 5 November, a vehicle approaching a routine Australian foot patrol was signalled to stop by the patrol," the spokesman said.

"Instead of stopping, the vehicle increased its speed and continued in an erratic manner towards the patrol.

"After failing to respond to continued signals to stop and presenting a threat to the patrol, it was engaged by the patrol using small arms fire."

It is believed the vehicle contained two people, one of whom was injured.

This person was later seen to be taken away in another vehicle by Iraqi civilians and the extent of his injury was not known to the Australian troops, the spokesman said.

The spokesman said the troops had acted within their rules of engagement but an investigation into the incident would be carried out.

"Having given clear indications to the vehicle to stop and believing themselves to be under imminent threat they responded accordingly," he said.

I have to wonder what was going on that they let this person be taken away by civilians.

Probably a distraught, election-shocked Democrat human shield left over from last year.

"it was engaged by the patrol using small arms fire." "

Could have been "engaged" with an 84mm Carl Gustav rocket!

Erratic driving like a drunk, or erratic like a Democratic spending spree?

Oops, sorry, wrong thread.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!

Wait a minute, the Democrats keep saying we are in Iraq alone! First the British, the Poles, Japanese, Hungarians, Koreans, etc, and now the Aussies! We need to do a better job controlling immigration over there. Too many friendly troops are getting in.

It's funny the way that happens, isn't it?

It's a good thing the friendlies don't read the Democrats'/MSM press releases.
