Distraught over the re-election of President George W. Bush, a Georgia man traveled to New York City, went to Ground Zero and killed himself with a shotgun blast, police said yesterday.

The suicide victim, Andrew Veal, 25, was discovered just before 8 a.m. yesterday when a worker for the Millennium Hotel looking at Ground Zero from an upper floor saw a man lying atop the concrete structure through which the 1 and 9 subway lines run.

The worker, thinking the man was sleeping, alerted colleagues and the Port Authority police were notified.

But when they got to Veal's body, they realized he had killed himself with a shot to the head from a .12-gauge shotgun.

No suicide note was found, but according to a Port Authority police source, family members said Veal, a registered Democrat, was despondent over Bush's defeat of Sen. John Kerry. A second source said Veal, who lived in Athens, Ga., and worked for the University of Georgia, was also adamantly opposed to the war in Iraq.

More than three years after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, Ground Zero remains a top tourist attraction, the site rife with symbolism.

Visitors there yesterday reacted in different ways to news of Veal's suicide. Bobbie Jensen, 54, a Republican from Phoenix, said that while she understood how Bush's victory disturbed those...

I blame the hate filled liberals that spread their propoganda to the youths of America. They convince them that our commander and cheif is simply an evil man out for money and willing to send soldiers to their death for money.

This young man was obviously so misled by someone. What a waste.

"The unprecedented campaign of scare-mongering and HATE by the left drove him to this. He really believed their lies and thought the world was coming to an end. The left should feel this is on their hands."

Most insightful post of the thread.

It is indeed tempting to dance on the poor fool's grave. However, the distorted fear-mongering by Kerry's supporters/Bush's haters is the most likely reason for his despair.

Remember, Kerry himself had leapt upon Bush's suggestion to explore taking 2% of SSI to put into a personal account to scare blue-haired old ladies into thinking that they will be thrown into the gutter if Bush is elected.

As I had explained in another thread, Kerry was willing to sacrifice a great deal in order to be elected.

I have to admit to being surprised that Kerry conceded rather than try to undermine the American people's confidence by challeging the election results in court.

"I know so many New Yorkers who are depressed over this."

Go ahead and line right up, then. One free shotgun (and one shell) per customer.

Nationwide headline, had we seen some poor, morose conservative blowing his/her brains out, over the certain prospect of a Kerry candidacy: DISTURBED LONER KILLS SELF; "Inability To Handle Election Loss a Sign of Instability, Immaturity," Say Experts.

Kerry even talked about the draft himself and Kerry himself talked about a million African-Americans being denied the vote.

It was truly a vicious hate campaign

I put the blame for this on child safety caps and kitchen cabinet locks. Years ago, someone like this would have eaten a sh@toad of poison and died before he was five. Now, these morons get to grow up, vote Democrat and multiply.

Just watch how the Dems. treat this whole incident, they are going to make a martyr out of him, especially right here in Manhattan, NYC. They will want to name a street or a plaza after him, if you disagree and think I don't know what I am talking about, listen up, I've lived here for over 50 years, I know the demographics of Manhattan Island, and I know the twisted thinking of the left and they are looking for any cause right now to "stick"it to the Republican party.

If Zell still considers himself a Democrat, then he's definitely in denial.

Old media are to blame--they have convinced those who are unstable of their doom--

I agree but being the elitest they are they will blame it on Bush.

Very sad for him. Actually, I wondered how long it would be before a Dem went this far. It sounds like lots of them are close to it.

And, Robert Redford said he's going to move Ireland!?!

It is sad. The man needed help, and Bush had nothing to do with his choice.

With that said, I wonder if it was someone at the Derranged Underground........
